Reception and entrance lead you into a false sense of security. Our room as tiny - so small that my side of the bed was against the wall and the only way I could get out of bed was to either climb over my husband or get out of the bottom of the bed without banging my head on the TV. The wardrobe looked like it would fall down if you hung anything in it and the bathroom... It was dirty / disgusting - didn't look like it had seem bleach in years. I had a bath not realising how bad it was - it only when you are sitting there you notice more. I would have complained but we due to fo straight out. I had bubbles in my bath and it wasn't until got out I realised the bath was full of black bits and they weren't from me!! I felt dirtier after being in the bath than when I went it. This has to be the poorest hotel I have stayed at in a long time (and I have stayed at pontins (unfortunately))!!!

Close to transport. Easy walking distances to most sightseeing, shopping areas. Many restaurants around if not wanting to eat in.

The location was great, right near the train station and the room was very clean -- but the maid never left enough towels for the two of us, did not refill the facial tissues and we did not have enough toilet tissue to last the night. The lack of adequate maid service was frustrating, one day while we were out the maid did deliver more towels upon our request BUT left the towels on the FLOOR in the HALL!!!! I could not believe it! So the maids need work at this hotel but the location was great and it was actually very clean.

The hotel is right opposite the central railway station, so was extremely convenient for us; it's also a short walk to the centre of town and the Theatre Royal. Rooms were clean and comfortable (though we were first given a key to a room that had someone else's belongings in it!). The iron stayed cool and spilled water instead of steaming but everything else worked well. We didn't try the restaurant as there was a decent pub and a cheap cafe that sold breakfast nearby.

Idela location right in the city centre. Large hotel. Value rooms are what you expect but the feel of the hotel and location made this a very attractive deal.

I thought the hotel location was excellent, the staff where extremely nice and helpful, providing an excellant service. I didnt rate the rooms that great the bathroom wasn't the cleanest but other than that i would recommend the hotel and would return.

perfect location opposite station and 3 minutes from theatre , my destination. (didn't use restaurant, bar or other facilities.) i arrive friday 11am hoping to leave my luggage till check-in and was instantly offered a room "we have a quiet one". i had booked a single room at a very good price and was delighted to find it had a double bed. the bed was against one wall and the room would have been a bit neat for two people, but was better than the typical single. room and bathroom spotless.self-service breakfast well organised, better than usual slow ordering, but food still fresh.excellent staff. positive attitude from everyone i met - reception, breakfast room and housekeeping.

I was very disappointed with my stay at the County Hotel by Thistle and would not recommend anyone stay here. It is 2 doors away from a pub and the noise kept us awake for the 2 nights stay. The size of the room was awful; you could not swing a cat in it, paid an extra £160 to upgrade and what a waste of money that was. Staff were not helpful and did not ask us how our stay was I think it was because they were inundated with similar complaints.

The hotel was very nice however i was not impressed when i was told that i would have to pay ten pounds to park my car in the hotel car park per day when i was a guest at the hotel, when you add this to the room rate it's quite expensive i would definitely compare prices at other hotels before booking at the County Thistle.
