Really enjoyable stay, clean rooms, big hotel feel. Great health club with gym. No noise when I stayed, great night sleep. Would stay there again.

Staff werer svery welcoming and efficient, and it served the purpose - ie. a fairly cheap room for one when I was spending minimal time there other than asleep. The single rooms are a bit small, and the location is quite a long way from any tube station.

The hotel itself is fine, but to use the words 'City and Barbican' in it's name is more than a tad misleading. The hotel is ACTUALLY in a slightly rough feeling area about 15 minutes walk from the centre of Islington. It has 12 car parking spaces and if they're full, it's going to be 'on street' parking in the kind of area you wouldn't be comfortable leaving a nice car (although to be fair - mine DID survive the night). It's a fair old hike to a tube station too. In conclusion, the hotel itself is fine and represents fairly good value for money (although the concierge was probably the least helpful and least interested hotel concierge in the universe) and if you don't have a car, don't need to get to a tube station and just need somewhere clean to get your head down for the night - then it's probably OK.

Arrived at 2030 really struggled to be served in the restaurant which was open till after 2200 staff were preoccupied with setting up for breakfast. We needed to keep prompting them that we needed the next course. Our room was noisy due to some sort of generator, which run from 7pm to 3am. We stayed for 4 days and each day our tea and coffee facilities were not replenished until requested at reception. Room not serviced despite placing 'service my room' sign on door. Electronic door key stopped working twice. Staff do not speak very good english and keep asking you to wait whilst they find an English speaker. Spa/Pool rammed with too many users, not relaxing at all. WE PAID A FAIR SUM TO STAY HERE AND IT'S NOT VALUE FOR MONEY.

Hotel is a very good alternative to London's "bed and breakfast" style hotels.Even if you book basic room,it should be ok. Rooms are not so big,but clean, and hotel located within 10 minutes walk from underground station. So,if you go to London for a couple of days, and you don't want to pay a lot, remember about this hotel.

A very enjoyable stay with staff friendly and helpful. Room was extremely comfortable and exceeded our expectations. The only blemish, which stopped me giving our stay a 5 star rating was the loss of electric to the room plug sockets as the room kettle kept blowing the breaker! But, unfortunately, it took more than one call to get the problem sorted.

Looking for a last minute place to stay in London, this is a great location - near to Angel, Upper Street and Shoreditch for food and venues. Although the decor didn't seem to suit all in review it was nicely deco, if a little high on the central heating settings. We turned all of ours off in the room. Good value and being able to have a swim on Sunday morning was luxury. Be back!

Was in London for a friend's birthday party and this hotel offered cheap accomodation, walking distance from the venue......and most importantly, a really comfortable bed! I'd stay again for the odd night in London.

This is my second visit to the Thistle and I was very disappointed. I had a tiny room. Everything was minimalist and geared up to saving money - horrible old small towels, third rate toiletries. Even the tea bags were rationed. I couldn't have a second cup of tea in my room. On the first day I reported that the door handle to my room fell on the floor in the corridor and needed repairing. They seemed to know about it already, but by the time I left on the third day, it still had not been repaired. This hotel may have four star facilities, but the basic elements are close to two star.

Room was large but furnishings tired, faded and some stains on the walls, not my idea of a 3 star hotel at 144 pounds sterling a night. Staff were very helpful and polite, problems were dealt with promptly. Good location for the Barbican but don't walk alone late at night, get a taxi.

Clean but very small room, very thin wall. Inconvenient location, 15 minutes walk from tube station. Amenity and facility is enough. Some staff is harsh and impolite. But maybe value for money for short stay.

A useful hotel if you need to be in the Barbican area. The Health Centre was good.

Leisure facilities were excellent. Although not near a bus route or rail station, the free courtesy bus made up for this.
