The Wordsworth Hotel Guest Reviews
Hotel is tired and needs a complete refurbishment. The current decor is 1980's Laura Ashley style. Our room was a Superior Double but was small and we were promised a King Sized bed, which was actually two singles pushed together. The carpet was frayed dangerously by the bathroom door. We were kept awake by the guttering dripping and on inspection the next day was in need of repair. Despite all this the hotel is made by its friendly staff and inparticular the recetionist. The breakfast was freshly cooked using superior ingredients, although accompanied by some strange background music, Brazillian I think. Dinner was very expensive so we ate in the town where there are some reasonalbly priced pubs and restaurants. The swimming pool and Jacuzzi were clean and warm. I very expensive weekend all be it a bank holiday the hotel did not represent value for money.

The only discomfort we felt were on account of the stuffy nights. The windows had to be closed on account of the chilly breeze following rains and it became quite hot. A table fan would have solved the problem. The staff were extremely polite and professional.

Pros: Telephone manner for reception was very business like and respectful. Beautiful location, nice parlour to relax with board games such as backgammon, dominoes and other such family fames. The view was great from the hotel. Great marmalade and generous helpings at breakfast. Food in Bistro area was quite tasty and good for the price. Excellent coal fire in the lobby for those winter days. Bathroom was very clean and relaxing. Cons: Bistro area staff were constantly trying to remove plates when food was partially eaten. The reception staff forgot about and even lost a piece of paper that I asked them to stamp so I could claim back the cost from my company. I gave them this paper at the time of check-in but on checking out was told they knew nothing about it resulting in me waiting for 10 minutes while they make me another. The room I stayed in was facing towards the inner section of the hotel so the view was awful.

The food in the restaurant was superb, we loved it. The service was 'spot on'. The hotel decor, rooms etc, was chinzy, bit dated. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Excellent hotel apart from the hotel owner swigging mouthfuls of drink from the spirit bottles behind the bar and then putting them back on the shelf! Reported to staff, but they seemed unwilling to talk to owner. Menu does not change if you stay a week you get the same choice every night - very good food though.
