The Whitehall was a great way to experience Chicago. Located in the more happening part of town, with the pier and train stations close by. Beautifully decorated and clean, rennovations did very little to affect our enjoyment of this hotel.

It was hot in the hotel. The elevators are very small and very slow. Both were usually not working at the same time. There are not coffee pots in the rooms and when I went down each morning the coffee was already gone (staff had already cleared it) or they were out of coffee and nobody to refill it. There were no outlets to use for iron. Had to set ironing board in small bathroom. It was a good location, but for $170/night it was not worth it. Plus, it was an additional $150 for 3 day stay for parking.

Overall a great value for the price. In midwinter, on a snowy evening, it was somewhat cold in the room, but still a cozy bed with plenty of comfort

While the rooms were dated, they were comfortable, especially the beds, the bath was well complemented, including nice big bath robes. At first we had trouble with the overhead heater in the bathroom, one mention to the staff and it was quickly taken care of. Similarly we had a problem with our bedside clock, but it was replaced within a few minutes. Even though the attached Fornetto restaurant was undergoing some renovation, the hotel lounge bar was comfortable, and the service and food in the restaurant was excellent. We have stayed at many hotels in Chicago, but if you are looking for an older, homey European feel, at good value, this is the place.
