The Westin Miyako Hotel Kyoto Guest Reviews
The legendary Miyako Hotel is situated in beautiful East Kyoto, surrounded by temples and set on a slight rise overlooking a panorama of the city. Amenities are abundant in this sprawling hotel, with multiple restaurants, two pools, a spa, and even a lovely on-site nature trail. Rooms are clean and elegant and come with nice touches such as Japanese robes, plentiful toiletries, and a supremely comfortable bed. But some staff members (including one person behind the concierge desk and another who answered their "service express" phone line!) seem mildly impatient at times, or just not as serene and effortlessly helpful as they are at some other luxury establishments in Japan. And they charge you for everything -- separately for internet access in your room and wifi elsewhere in the hotel, just to sit in their lounge, etc. -- which is irritating. And prices are annoyingly steep: $7 for a to-go coffee in a paper cup; $10 for a can of beer in the minibar; $70 for a simple dinner of soup, appetizer, and beer in their Chinese restaurant; etc.

King size bed, overlooking the northern part of Kyoto mountain ranges and within walking distance from the Keage train line but also to the "silver pavilion"............it was hard to drag myself to see kyoto temples when the hotel room (bed, size, TV, view) is better than home. Definitely will stay here again................

Brilliant, perfect location for historical Kyoto. Staff exceptional. Highly recommended for a Kyoto stay.

Had a great stay for a week at this hotel. In a great part of town for so many of the attractions along the foot of the hills all within good walking distance if you're reasonably energetic. Older part of this huge hotel is a bit dated but not a problem for us, though the newer sections are probably superior ...at a higher price. Restarants are very expensive and extra charges for pool use, internet use, seem a bit over the top. However we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and there are so many great places to eat locally and in town it was not a problem. A real bonus is the shuttle bus which runs regularly to the main station, as we always seemed to end up there after a days activities.
