If you know you can catch shuttle bus from Kyoto Stn to hotel. Front staff efficient but could be more friendly. Room was lovely but everything from else from using an iron to swimming pool/wifi use etc is an add-on where one would expect to be included. Iwasgien complimentary breakfast vouchers as it was my birthday which was nice. As hotel is little way out of city centre I would reccommend somewhere like the Okura before returning to this hotel. The walking trail behind hotel is great to exlore & fabulous view over north Kyoto.

Outstanding as usual. Great location for walking to temples, Gion, etc. Wonderful staff. Please note that the business office has three computers and is not staffed; best to take your own computer, or not plan to use the computer.

The legendary Miyako Hotel is situated in beautiful East Kyoto, surrounded by temples and set on a slight rise overlooking a panorama of the city. Amenities are abundant in this sprawling hotel, with multiple restaurants, two pools, a spa, and even a lovely on-site nature trail. Rooms are clean and elegant and come with nice touches such as Japanese robes, plentiful toiletries, and a supremely comfortable bed. But some staff members (including one person behind the concierge desk and another who answered their "service express" phone line!) seem mildly impatient at times, or just not as serene and effortlessly helpful as they are at some other luxury establishments in Japan. And they charge you for everything -- separately for internet access in your room and wifi elsewhere in the hotel, just to sit in their lounge, etc. -- which is irritating. And prices are annoyingly steep: $7 for a to-go coffee in a paper cup; $10 for a can of beer in the minibar; $70 for a simple dinner of soup, appetizer, and beer in their Chinese restaurant; etc.

King size bed, overlooking the northern part of Kyoto mountain ranges and within walking distance from the Keage train line but also to the "silver pavilion"............it was hard to drag myself to see kyoto temples when the hotel room (bed, size, TV, view) is better than home. Definitely will stay here again................

Had a great stay for a week at this hotel. In a great part of town for so many of the attractions along the foot of the hills all within good walking distance if you're reasonably energetic. Older part of this huge hotel is a bit dated but not a problem for us, though the newer sections are probably superior ...at a higher price. Restarants are very expensive and extra charges for pool use, internet use, seem a bit over the top. However we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and there are so many great places to eat locally and in town it was not a problem. A real bonus is the shuttle bus which runs regularly to the main station, as we always seemed to end up there after a days activities.

The presence of a small hiking trail in the forest behind the hotel, complete with some tags identifying important forest plants, is an absolutely stunning feature. The staff were extremely helpful with matters such as neighbourhood restaurant, kabuki theatre and train reservations. Breakfasts (cosmopolitan and Japanese) and lunch buffets in the in-hotel restaurants were of extraordinarily high quality. One of the best hotels we have stayed at during 25 years of travelling in more than 20 countries.

Everything was wonderful except they did not deliver a very important phone message!

One of the nicer Westernized hotels in Kyoto. A refreshening departure from the typical 1970s decor of high end Japanese "Western" hotels. For the price, a ryokan is certainly a more interesting experience; however, this is a wonderful property.

This was not worth the money in my opinion. The first two nights of our 4 nights stay were miserable because our room had NO airconditioning and the hotel was pumping hot air into our room. The dial to turn off air was broken. I cannot believe that at $220 a night you get a room with no aircon available. They lied and said there was no airconditioning in the hotel. We kicked up a fuss and they finally upgraded us to a room where we could control the temperature. Beware, if you book online and get what you think is a good deal for this hotel, you might end up with a very average room as we did with not even the most basic amenities.
