The Westin Alexandria Guest Reviews
I had a meeting at the USPTO. It is just across the street from the hotel

The room was clean, spacious, and very comfortable. The bed was one of the most comfortable hotel beds I've ever slept in. The hotel is conveniently located near a Metro station, but there is not much to do or eat nearby. I had little interaction with the staff, so I don't have much feedback on the staff.

proximity to the Metro was the reason I chose it. Way overpriced in the restaurant and bar. And you had to PAY to use the computer to go online to check your flight status. I refused to do that considering what I was paying already. The shuttle was supposed to be complimentary, but the driver made it very clear that he wanted a tip.The pool was so small, fits ? 10 people-Really!

We decided to stay in Alexandria VA to avoid paying a lot of money in DC, which turned out to be a really good choice. It was somewhat hard to find, as there is road construction going on and the directions from mapquest didn't work. However, 10 minutes later we arrived. The hotel is very nicely decorated. There is no self-parking, only valet, and it was $24.00 per night. Our room was in the concierge level, so we had access to the lounge. The front desk staff was very friendly and willing to help and answer any questions we had. The lounge offered Starbucks coffee, soft drinks, continental breakfast (pastries, fruit, yogurt and scrambled eggs) and hors d'oeuvres in the evening. The staff at the lounge was hit or miss on friendliness - either non-caring or very friendly. Even though most rooms have no balconies, the bow shower curtain and a 'Blue Marvel' wake-up system on the TV are features I enjoyed. Its location is very convenient - a few blocks away from two different Metro stations: King Street and Eisenhower Avenue. It is also within walking distance of Hoffman Center, where there's an AMC theater and a few diverse restaurants (Thai, Mediterranean, American, Mexican, and a Ruby Tuesday). We moved mostly walking and through the Metro, although the hotel does offer a free Shuttle to the metro stations and King Street for dining. We had a few issues with the shuttles, as they are advertised as first-come first-serve, yet groups of people are able to pre-reserve them - which messed up our schedule for the night. We did complain to the hotel, and although the resolution was not entirely the best, they did try to make it up with a nice note and some apples to our room. A concerning issue we had were towels. We were told by the housekeeping dept. that they were short on towels almost every time that we had to call for them. Some nights we didn't have bath towels, some nights we didn't have hand towels. But after our incident with the shuttle, they never seemed to run short in our room anymore. The pool and gym facilities are located on the third floor, and in my opinion are too small for the hotel. Especially the Spa, only fitting five people. The pool has scheduled hours, and a lifeguard is always present. You have to sign in and out of the pool every time as well. The hotel restaurant was great in both service and food, as they have a menu that leans more towards healthier choices. We can't speak for dinner, but we did eat breakfast there twice as the choices of the concierge lounge were repetitive. My rating, I believe, reflects more the fact that I had higher expectations of this hotel than what really happened.

Trying to get service was very slow. It took 45 mins to learn that I could not get my suit pressed. Also the front desk took several minutes to answer my request. Many Wash DC taxi drivers do not know how to find this hotel because it is in a newer area of Alexandria. Trip to Wash DC took 45 min to 60 mins. Otherwise, the hotel is clean and in a nice area of town.
