The Royal Hotel Cardiff

I though that the check in time was relativly late (3pm) compared with other hotels that I have stayed in. However, when we did return earlier at 2pm we were checked in.

Fantastic, we were able to check in early and also leave our cases before our train left The staff were wonderfully polite and helpful 2 minor observations only, the toilet roles were a bit 'cheap' (we like really soft ones..) we were given a map with instructions to the inernatioal arena, but we didnt realise at first that there were 2 entrances, and the map reflected the journey from the opposite enrance to which we entered

Had a lovely stay, was very impressed with the room very modern and clean. Even though there was no window this really didnt make a difference. The breakfast though a little busy was great and it was easy to change from continental to full english. Would recommend this hotel. Many thanks

A bit noisy due to location on a Saturday night

The entrance is rather subtle - the name of the hotel could be more prominently displayed. A safe on the floor makes sense - no doubt it is bolted to the floor - however you have to scrabble around to set the code.

The staff were very unhelpful, the room was small and poorly equipped for a 3 * hotel and so it was poor value for money, even for the reduced rate achieved by using the Hotel Club.

Although this classic hotel has had a very good modern make over, some problems remain. In the foyer, there is what can only be described as a 'funky' smell. The bar is well stocked but expensive for what it is and for the shoddy level of service. During my stay, a lady in the bar asked for a menu and after 20 minutes of searching, the member of staff couldn't find one and directed her to the room service menu in her room. Once she had decied on a very simple meal, it took a long time to arrive. Thank goodness I wasn't eating in. We stayed on a Saturday night and the hotels position in the centre of Cardiff meant that the roudy crowds from below could be heard well after 3am. However these are very minor points. The room was exceptionally comfortable and every effort had been made to make us feel relaxed and cared for. As a base for work or play in Cardiff, a very good little hotel.

modern hotel with great facilities, centrally located with amazingly cheap room rates, would definitely visit again, perfect for couples!

Our room was very small with a tiny window that was too high to see out of - hence i thought the price was expensive for the size of the room. Also, due to the hotels location, outside the hotel was very noisy to the early hrs of the morning which limited our sleep

mediocre continental breakfast with mediocre service. Romm very nice & clean & prices good for centre of town. Not suggested for middle aged ladies...most other patroms were young men, possibly on stag weekends!

Very modern hotel with young enthusiastic staff on reception. Good self-service continental breakfast. Right in the middle of Cardiff - only drawback is that even on the 6th floor the noise from the busy late-opening nightspots on St.Mary's Street can be heard.

Everyone was exceptionally helpful and cheerful. They found bus and train information for us, answered our endless questions about a city we didn't know. When I asked where I could buy some safety pins, someone appeared at our door a few minutes later with just what I needed. It was a very happy experience.
