The Palace Hotel Buxton
3 out of 5

Stayed for one night hoping for a special experience. Can't fault the staff, everyone was friendly and chatty, a cheery good morning from the housekeeping staff too. The main public areas still have a bit of wow factor and seem decently well maintained. Sadly the corridors are desperate for refurb and look really run down. The room was spacious and had agreat view over Buxton. Sadly again tired fixtures and a run down bathroom let it down. A loose window rattled all night and really needs attention. Bit of a shock at being charged £4 a pint and over £4 for parking ... It's Buxton lads not London! Overall, I just felt that this stunning building deresved a bit more tlc. I understand that it's changed ownership a few times, I just hope that the current owners invest in their asset.

hotel stay ok but breakfast service on both mornings of our stay was terrible. buffet style breakfast and the offerings were good when you could get them as so much kept running out resulting in repeated waits until food replenished.

The rooms were a little shabby considering the price and the grandeur of the building itself.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at the Palace hotel in Buxton. The bedroom we had was very clean. The location of the hotel is excellent, very close to all the amienties of the beautiful spa town of Buxton. We did not eat in the restaurant in the evening but the breakfast we had was very good, lots of choice and good service with a smile. I would use this hotel again if we were to go again to Buxton.

Lack of facilities eg very hot weekend but no outside seating for during the day and non available to sit out in the evening . Lots of people felt yhe same way as we did. Evening menue was too much like a winter menue and was uninteresting making us go else where for our evening meal. Otherwise the hotel was first class

Went for a short break to see a concert, the hotel was excellent. Bit of a problem trying to check in slightly early, but the receptionist was polite and said we could use the hotel facilities before check-in. We made use of the gym, sauna and steam room which were a good standard. All staff were helpful, it is excellently located for exploring the peak district, breakfast was very good and overall I would highly recommend the hotel.

I noticed that all the hotel staff were happy in their work. They were all pleasant, responsive and smiling. Their work practices were good.e.g. when recption porter was asked for extra pillows...he immediately contacted the housekeepers with his hand held intercom and he actually enjoyed doing it! Obviously someone has invested in these people. We are hoping to stay at this hotel again soon.

Room prices very good, drinks expensive. Should have no smoking policy and no porn films on offer: this is offensive.
