The only slight fault is the restaurants. We used La Terrasse; the service and attentiveness was excellent, but the quality of the food not as good as I remember for the past. My companion had pasta, a special promotion, but reported the pasta was thick and heavy although the taste was good. My idlis at breakfast were rather too solid and the coconut chutney was not at all tasty. Some of the fruits on the fruit platter on more than one occasion were decidedly not ripe enough - pears and guava for example. I also had ras malai which was bright yellow yet did not taste of saffron or cardamon.

We had an early flight, and the hotel did not have any tea or coffee available easily in the lobby as promised. Also they failed a wake up call request. Their hotel taxi was very overpriced.

The hotel lived up to my expectations and it was a pleasant stay. Everything was convenient and yes I would recommend any of my friends stay there.

Slightly old-fashioned compared to some of the newer swankier hotels, but quality, service and friendly staff amply compensate. The rooms were of a good standard, and the location is probably better than the other 5-star hotels in Calcutta. At a reasonable price, I would recommend this hotel.

Huge rooms and an oasis in Calcutta. Nice swimming pool. Restaurant food and decor is tired and disappointing, compared to Oberois in Delhi or Mumbai. There are a lot of much better places to eat in Calcutta. Front desk staff and concierge are superb.
