Location
As the closet hotel to Horseshoe Falls, the Oakes offers convenient access to popular fall's attractions like Maid of the Mist boat tours, Journey Behind the Falls and the Fallsview Casino. Rainbow Bridge, the Butterfly Conservatory and Bird Kingdom are a few minutes from the hotel by car.

The hotel was difficult to find. The staff at the front desk were abrupt. Beyond the lobby the hotel is a tired old affair. Hallways are damaged by luggage, carpets faded and worn. The ceiling in the room was patched, the bathroom was the worst we've encountered and the bedding was cheap and minimal. The only good feature was the view.

You cannot fault this hotel's location. Where else can you see the Horseshoe Falls from your bed? Convenient location for all tourist sites in Niagara, restaurants, parking, etc. As for the hotel itself, I'd describe it as ok for a big mid/high end hotel in a popular tourist destination. However, in a few places it was a little cheap-looking. For example the hotel lobby looked a little plain, there was an old style CRT TV in our room and our bathroom was tiny and very utilitarian-looking. But all-in-all it was clean, acceptable and I would stay there again.

Front desk made me stand there for quite some time in front of them before checking me in and then made it seem as though I was bothering them. I detected attitude and arrogance. She pointed to the elevator and said the room was on the second floor. When I asked how do I get there exactly she said, where, the elevator, doing her best to make me feel stupid. Finding the entrance to their parking lot was a challenge. They could have shared that information. Hallways were filthy and run down.

The hotel has a number of windows located on the 14th floor (observation deck) overlooking the falls, which was fantastic. Free fireworks take place every Friday and Saturday during May. (These times change in frequency depending on the time of year). The hotel also offer a package upon arrival which includes dinner for two at Remington's of Niagara Restaurant, complimentary shuttle, hot breakfast for two at Applebee's next door to the hotel and free wine tasting vouchers at four wineries. Great value for $69. Parking is available at the hotel for $15 per day and the hotel is located in the middle of the city hub.

Price was great, room not so much. The bathroom was really tiny, the shower had spots in it and the water was lagging. Stayed on the 5th floor, like all the other reviewers mentioned from the first floor to the 5th, we had a view of the parking lot. Experience could have been alot better.
