The New York Helmsley Hotel Guest Reviews
This hotel was ideally placed for a walking experience in Manhattan and the rate was good for NYC at this time of the year. Room was spacious and comfortable but very warm (heating/cooling system not working). Often plumbing noises from the adjoining room were periodically disturbing. Overall, good value for the money, especially due to its location and easy access to NYC's sites.

Room furnishings look more like Grandma's cast-offs than the pictures on the web. Beds were comfortable and clean, however. Bathroom was neither. Why can't the folks who install hotel shower fixtures ever set the hot and cold to both turn in the proper direction? Oh, and clean the floor with your eyes open. Lobby was cramped and not welcoming. That said, can't beat the location for easy walk to midtown stuff and easy subway access. Price was good too.

Overall very comfortable - room was nice size with an excellent bed/linens/pillows. The staff was excellent and very helpful and friendly. Location is safe and easy walk to 5th. The hotel is in the process of redoing most floors. Several good breakfast options nearby as well as resturants.

Great location, friendly staff, nice rooms. Only complaint is that I was told I'd have a king and the only room left was two doubles.

We paid an extra twenty something dollars a day to get "stunning views of new york from floors 25 and above". Well, we were given a room on the 23 floor with an office building as a view. I would not mind this at all if they would have refunded this extra fee back to us. When we tried to contact front desk about this issue, the clerk was not helpful at all and barely knew how to speak english... She pretended that the extra fee we paid did not exist at all. We simply walked away because we did not want our nice New York trip ruined right from the start. Don't get me wrong, the hotel is great, clean and in an excellent location. The price is good for Manhattan. But honestly we feel like we paid extra for something that has not been delivered and/or not even refunded, in other words, we feel "ripped off". That fact alone is reason for me NOT to recommend it.
