The hotel was great as were the staff, the parking however was a nightmare, underground in an old railway tunnel. It was hard to park even a small car. The car park itself was dirty and overun with cockroaches as well as being poorly lit. I would only stay at this hotel again if I did not need to driver there!

Very well located facing Wynyard Park/train station/bus interchange with a smell of NYC - maybe the green trees and the buzz. The place has these wooden walls, stripy wallpaper in the rooms, leather benches (Menzies era?), what is missing is the 'smoking room' so Churchill would fit perfectly. Avoid the breakfast at the 'Carrington' for hotel customers in the basement level. Suddenly it's more like a canteen, the place looses its character, and it's expensive - $48 for two continentals. Much better to walk 10mn to The Rocks for a much better experience - because the hotel is IN the centre. I liked it.

The Menzies was the best located hotel where I have stayed in Sydney. It is a short stroll to the Rocks, shopping, numerous restaurants and the Opera House. The room was comfortable and spacious and how nice to have a bath as well. The staff were most helpful and friendly and the breakfast was great, as was the Sunday roast at Sporters Bar. The pool, sauna and gym were most welcome too at the end of the day. A show at the Opera House (Blaze) was the reason for the 3 night city stay and I will definitely return to the Menzies.

Staff friendly, helpful. Location great for City excursions - many within walking distance. Public transport (bus and train) right out the front of the hotel.

we checked in and were upgraded to a king single room, we asked for the bed to be split, when we arrived back we had access but found the bed had not been split & luggage was missing, we had been moved to another room without being notified, it was so noisy we asked to be moved again, as I have medical condition the stress exacerbated my situation and I had to come home for medication. I could not be given a refund as I had booked online & not with the hotel itself. I would like my money refunded for the night we did not stay as soon as posible , not a pleasant experience Kate Phillips

I was given a room with two single beds on wheels. It was the most uncomfortable night's sleep I have had in ages. This is a two star hotel charging a five star price. There is better value to be held elsewhere.

I was expecting so much more from this hotel, especially in this price range. The location is great but everything else was average or below. The room was looking rather dull and tired and the room service meal was inedible and not from a personal taste aspect but simply poor quality and not freshly made. It pays not to eat your room service dinner on your bed because if you spill something on it they may not change the duvet cover. Its yours for the remainder of your stay and a gentle reminder of your slovenly behaviour. If you think that Sydney bus transport is bad, try catching the lifts. If you lack patience like me, take a book for your journey or embrace small talk with other travellers and you'll feel like best mates by the time the doors open again. Trying to get anyone to answer the phone before it disconnects after 5 rings is also another fun game you can play in your room to pass the time. For AUD150 to AUD 200 a night I would say reasonable value but $300 i think I would want something a little more.

Really nice hotel, but the parking is a hassle. There are no lifts to the parking lots, and stairs to manage with luggage, although have now found out that luggage can be unloaded at front door - good if you know about it. Also don't expect to find any restaurants open in the near vicinity after 10pm.

Menzies is a great hotel. It is strategically located across the street from a metro station and you can get nearly anywhere on Sydney's metro system. Several great bars and restaurants are within a short walk. While it is not as expensive as some hotels in the area, it is still pricey as are most hotels.

Location cannot be any better but... Bottle of water by the bed. 8 dollars. Internet 66 dollars per week (even if you stay 3-4 days). Afraid of getting into the shower as if staying at remote camping area. Only a dribble of water, temperature either 95C or 5C. Night 2-3-4 Felt cold, asked several times for a blanket. Took my flight out of Australia before it ever made it to my room. Night 4 TV remote control gone. Call reception. Call reception again. Call reception again (again!). One hour passes. Remote control arrives. Now TV does not work (my doubt now is did remote disappear because TV did not work anymore?) Bed VERY comfortable

The bed in room 1132 was very hard . I could not walk in the morning it damaged my back. Our friends stayed in room 1144 and they had a very new nice bed. We always get the rough end . the shower was not good either there was very little water coming out and the temp was hard to adjust

Most enjoyable. We appreciated the upgrade and complementary bottle of wine. Evening meal on Saturday was great, however the evening meal on Sunday was only luke warm when we got it.

it was a great hotel. straight across the road from public transport from the airport, meant we were there with no hassles. The room was a little small for what we were expecting however the comfyness of the bed and furniture made up for that.

It's all about expectations vs reality. All in all I had a good experience. And the hotel accommodated for one of my major needs... it offered a twin room with double beds, which is a rare thing at an affordable price in Australia. Yet, due to cost and star-rating I would have expected the hotel to be in better shape... and to offer decent wifi signal in-room... as well as a better selection of after-hours room service. But you know how it goes... this hotel was all location! Staff was friendly and amenities were ok.
