The Lakes Cairns Resort & Spa
4 out of 5

This was our fourth stay at the lakes in the last five years. It is a beautiful place. Swimming pools superb and everywhere beautifully manicured. Spotless. The down side this time was the fact that one of the restaurants was closed. Economics and the lime bar which was so lovely is not open at the moment. It will be reopening according to the staff. The world financial crisis has taken its toll on Cairns but it is bouncing back. THere are more permanent residents living in at the resort now compared to last time we were there. IT is a quiet romantic location, or it can be a great family place to stay. You don't get much noise exhange between the apartments. The down side is although there is a shuttle into cairns and various locations I think you really need a car. It is cheaper to see all the sights anyway. Ladies do use the beauty spa. The massages and facials are great. A good upmarket hairdresser also on site. Beautiful. Staff friendly. Some units need updating with digital TVS!! Overall I would return again. Lovely

We all liked the fact that the hotel was on the edge of town rather than right in the city, it gave us a reason to walk, catch the bus and generally see a bit of the town. The rooms were nicely made up and kitchens well equipped, which I am always grateful for. The pools were lovely and well maintained but the 'gym' was a disgrace and not worthy of the name.

The aircon in the room stunk the whole 4 nights we stayed. The dust on the plastic plants was thick and the mat was perishing. This room hadn't been used in a while and wasn't checked before we moved in. Very disappointing. The beds were hard the pillows old and sloppy. The sitting furniture was not comfortable to sit too long on. You have to pay to use the room safe. The view over the pool was nice. The pools were great, lots to choose from. But beware noise travels and they don't close until 10pm.The bar was only open for happy hour. The bistro was closed. Bus service to shops available.Markets at the Botanic Gardens worth a visit and they are around the corner.

The resort overall was lovely and would be highly recomended, only difficulty was there were no elevators or assistance for elderly or unfit people in which to carry up and down their luggage, also with carry food shopping.

Perfect for families. Nice big roomy apartments, & full kitchen. Have stayed many times & will continue to do so in the future. Note for parents no DVD facilities & the in room TV service is average. SO BYO movies on ipod. Noticed that the rooms were starting to look 'tired' but thats only because I have been going there over the last 7 years! They have now got a 24 hr kiosk with basics like milk etc, which was great. Highly recommend to families travelling

We had a great week-long stay at The Lakes in Cairns. Our 2-bed apartment was at the far end of the resort and was quiet, very spacious and immaculately clean. It was near the children's playground and pool with soft white sand which my two young children loved. It is not in the centre of Cairns but we had a car so this was not a problem. Some small drawbacks - the hotel had no record of me ordering a portacot with my booking. Takeaway alcohol bought at reception is quite expensive (although convenient).

Really liked our stay here. It was very close to the airport and not far from the pier and a drive north (about an hour and a half) to the Gorge. Disappointed that there was no jacuzzi anywhere even though there are 3 pools

A great place to stay if you want everything at your fingertips. Gorgeous pool, very helpfull staff. Wish we had a longer stay to enjoy more of the emenities. It's location is away from the hub of downtown which we considered a plus. My only critisim is that it is too far to walk to restaurants but we had a car so not really an issue for us. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a great place to stay.

Large but well-equipped and efficient complex, so pools and facilities can be a long way from your apartment.

Lovely spacious apartments. Clean and well maintained. The only downside is that the resort is on the outskirts of Cairns - about 45 minutes walk into town but buses from the main highway are fairly frequent and only $2.50 each way.

We have stayed at The Lakes many times, and have generally found it to be good value for money. We are disappointed that the restaurant Lagos closed, as it was a great place for dinner without having to go into town.

Beware of what you are paying for. We paid for what we thought was a full bufet breakfast, but were told on arrival the extra we paid was for a flexable booking not breakfast. Otherwise it is a nice place to stay.

Generally a good stay, saw their gymnasium referred to as having state of the art equipment - a more honest description would be "very basic" gymnasium with the bare amount of equipment - not even a treadmill. Apart from that a pleasant stay - apartments generously sized.
