Location
Hongta Hotel is on Pu-dong district near Ramada Pudong Airport Shanghai. Shanghai tourists can also catch sporting events at Yuanshen Sports Centre Stadium and performances at Shanghai Oriental Art Center.

Excellent "butler-like" service. Convenient location. A superior 5-star hotel, best in Pudong. Wonderful staff, providing us with baby cot. Highly recommended!!

The hotel is well-located for people going to the international exhibition, but not for tourists which would like to explore Shanghai (traffic jam to get to the other side). No remarkable view like another five star hotel offers. The staff doesn''t know Western standards: <BR><BR> - The hotel knew our arrival time, the room was not ready at 1pm, we had to wait for 2 hours.<BR> - The hotel put us first in a room with 2 single beds instead of a king size as requested.<BR> - We found out that we got located in a smoking room even we booked a non-smoking room.<BR> - The expensive breakfast we got did not correspond to the menu description, so we had to complain.<BR> - The bathroom was never cleaned properly during our entire stay. We had to complain 4 times till they understood. <BR><BR> Positive was the help of Roland who offered us in compensation a free drive to the airport.

Overall, it was a great value for what I paid. However, one must understand that as far as room and facility goes, the St. Regis in Shanghai does not compare to the St. Regis Beijing. That is because St. Regis Beijing was built to St. Regis'' specs while the Shanghai facility was built first to independent specs and then sold to St. Regis. The butler service is a nice touch, but that goes without saying for all St. Regis hotels. <BR><BR> The one complaint I had was they refused to grant me a late check-out despite it being a Monday. I probably will not stay at this hotel location simply because of that. All I wanted was an extra hour or so but they were completely unaccommodating. So if you require this, make sure you speak with them in advance about it. If you don''t require it then it is not a big deal. The service staff was courteous and helpful and I had a pleasant stay overall except for the late check out policy.

Warm & cozy as usual. Doorman & other staffs could use a little more hellos and smiles when they meet guests in the hotel.
