The name Suan Phueng literally means ‘garden of bees’, as many bees build their nests in the ubiquitous Phueng trees. With locations like the Queen Sirikit Forest Garden proudly displaying their charms (totally different to the charms on display in certain Bangkok bars), the natural beauty of Suan Phueng has stung more than a few visitors. So pack the metaphorical antihistamine and see it for yourself.

SUAN PHUENG EVENTS
Thai New Year is celebrated in April with the Songkran Festival. Water fights have never had such significance.
In May you will see processions of worshipers heading to the temple at night for Visakha Bucha.
The Birthday of Her Majesty the Queen is celebrated in August, which explains who the woman is you’ll see on portraits everywhere at this time.
To keep the river spirits appeased for another year, banana leaf boats carrying incense and candles are floated in rivers, streams or dams for Loy Krathong in November.
In December the Birthday of His Majesty the King is celebrated with flags, lights and portraits everywhere. Don’t be tempted to mock it – that’s a criminal offence in Thailand!
WHEN TO GO
· In winter, the daytime temperatures are nice and comfortable, but it can get cold in the evenings.
· The cool mountain air also offers a nice change from the hotter and more humid Bangkok.
· The best time to visit is from December to March, which is the driest time of year.
GETTING AROUND
· Hire a car and hit the road to see all Suan Phueng has to offer.
· Many hotels offer free transfers to and from the bus station.
· To get up close and personal with nature, make your way into the mountains and walk through the flora and fauna. Just watch out for those bees…
