Left dormant for well over a century, the palace was completely restored in the mid-19th century at the behest of King Rama IV. A foremost retreat once again, additional landmarks like gardens, a monastery, pavilions and adjunct palace were built to add to the complex’s lustre. Bang Pa-In Royal Palace as it appears today however, did not fully take shape until the end of the 19th century. Now a major tourist attraction, the Summer Palace is still the occasional backdrop for royal galas and receptions in Thailand.
Vitals and Tips
Outside of public holidays and royal functions, Bang Pa-In Royal Palace is open everyday from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Tickets to enter the royal compound are sold until 3:30 p.m.
The palace is approximately 85 km from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport.
Reliable bus transportation to Bang Pa-In from Bangkok is available at the city’s Northern Bus Terminal.
