Pingtung is located in the southernmost region of Taiwan. The city of Pingtung offers the best glimpse into southern Taiwanese culture and lifestyle, with its many enchanting Buddhist temples, bustling night markets, colourful neon lights, and palm-lined streets. The surrounding Pingtung County offer many attractions, drawing a growing number of holidaymakers from across the world. In Pingtung, you can go snorkelling and diving in the spectacular coral-rich waters of Little Liuqiu Island, just 12.8 kilometres (8 miles) off Pingtung’s coast. The island also has a temple that will have Chinese opera shows. You can also enjoy live music festivals, surfing and beach parties at Kenting National Park or visit the 82.6-hectare (204.1-acre) Sandimen Cultural Park, which features the architecture, culture and lifestyles of the nine aboriginal Taiwanese tribes. Savour authentic Pingtung fare among the stalls of the Ruiguang Night Market as well as carnival games.
When To Go
With the annual average temperature a pleasant 24.1°C (75°F), you might be tempted to tour Pingtung any time of the year. However, the autumn from September through November may be the best to visit as prices and air pollution are at their lowest. The spring from March through May may see rather erratic weather, swinging between sudden sandstorms, rain and dry-heat conditions. May to October is another appropriate time for a Pingtung holiday, particularly for swimmers and beach lovers. Summer from June to August is also an ideal time for a beach holiday, but also very crowded, which can make accommodation harder to find.
