Favourite Cities and Hotels in Taiwan

Kenting is 5 to 6 hours from Taipei by bus, which is by far the most popular mode of transport to Pingtung County from the capital. The journey from Kaohsiung to Kenting is approximately 2.5 hours.

The new high speed rail network that connects Taipei with Zuoying, Kaohsiung provides another option. Total travel time is 1.5 hours, after which visitors can take bus 88 to Kenting.

A rental vehicle is handy for those who want to explore the county and area independently. Roads can be hazardous, however, and require utmost concentration, despite all the photogenic scenery.

Kenting Rundown

The southernmost tip of Taiwan is about as far as you can get, literally and figuratively, from ultra-urban Taipei. Kenting is the lush end of the line on the island and a pre-eminent platform to some of the most exquisite assets on the island. Assets both cultural and natural that hint at what life was like in pre-colonial Taiwan, before the arrival of the Dutch and Han Chinese. Indeed, even in the face of incessant tourist crowds it is not hard to wander off and wax quixotic in the gorgeous tropical recesses of Pingtung County. ... Read more »

The topography shifts from low hills to cliffs, caves to dunes and unfurls a vast coastline. The county as a whole is home to some superb spots as well, from Dapeng Bay National Scenic Area to Hengchun Ancient City, and deserves a thorough visit.

For those flying in, either the Tainan Airport or the Taipei Airport will bring visitors into Kenting. Although the train does not travel all the way to the city from Tainan, there are long-distance buses that make the trek.

Unfortunately, there are no taxis in the city, so visitors either rent a scooter or a car. Scooter rentals can be obtained just about anywhere, but there are buses for those who do not want to traverse the streets on two wheels. However, the buses usually don't make many stops around the city and instead tend to make longer trips to nearby cities.
