Kenting Rundown
The southernmost tip of Taiwan is about as far as you can get, literally and figuratively, from ultra-urban Taipei. Alas, Kenting is far from a clandestine diamond in the rough. Well over 5 million annual visitors define the area as one of the most prolific for leisure and water sports in all of East Asia. If you enjoy a good dive and thermal dip, the occasional hike and the call of a world class beach, this is the corner of Taiwan for you.
Kenting spans the singular Hengchun Peninsula, with Kenting National Park the flagship magnet for nature lovers. The topography shifts from low hills to cliffs, caves to dunes and unfurls a vast coastline. The county as a whole is home to some superb spots as well, from Dapeng Bay National Scenic Area to Hengchun Ancient City, and deserves a thorough visit.

For those flying in, either the Tainan Airport or the Taipei Airport will bring visitors into Kenting. Although the train does not travel all the way to the city from Tainan, there are long-distance buses that make the trek.
Unfortunately, there are no taxis in the city, so visitors either rent a scooter or a car. Scooter rentals can be obtained just about anywhere, but there are buses for those who do not want to traverse the streets on two wheels. However, the buses usually don't make many stops around the city and instead tend to make longer trips to nearby cities.
