Swish Swiss Alps

It’s not hard to see why the Swiss Alps are known as ‘Europe’s winter playground’. With dramatic landscapes, unmatched mountain vistas and quaint towns, not to mention the tinkle of cow bells, the Swiss Alps give a whole new meaning to the phrase ‘après ski’ – assuming you can drag yourself off the mountainside… ... Grindelwald in the Jungfrau region is a great starting point if you’re still perfecting the snowplough, while the stylish resort of St Moritz will reward you with a glittering nightlife energetic enough to rival that of any major city – if you emerge in one piece after tackling the 2,700m (8,858ft) vertical drops on the Klein Matterhorn at Zermatt. And with tax-free shopping more abundant than Chanel snowsuits, you can have your Swiss cheese and chocolate and eat it, too!

Swiss Alps’ Top 10

10. Kleine Scheidegg A great place for some beautiful scenic hikes, plus plenty of opportunities to stop for a feed.

5. Schilthorn Some of the best views year round and the best skiing in winter.

9. Klein Matterhorn Take a guide for the full experience, or stay over for some morning views and skiing ops.

4. Gornergrat Bahn This mega-famous ridge is not to be missed. Catch the cable cars for panoramic views.

8. Alpine Raft See a bit more of the country via canoeing and rafting. Even the most passive among your group will love this.

3.Monte Rosa Only the fittest should scale this one – otherwise, just get a guide to point it out to you.

7. Jungfraujoch Excellent views and the crème de la crème of the Swiss Alps’ snow-sport hubs.

2. Breithorn Follow the trail to this amazing peak. We recommend taking a guide if you intend to make it to the top.

6. Aletsch Glacier This World Heritage site is protected for a reason. Discover the flora and fauna that live around these parts.

1. Matterhorn If you jump far enough, you may just land in Italy!
