WHEN TO GO
Lugano has a climate that is relatively mild with year-round precipitation, 60 in (152cm). Although there are over 100 days with either rain or snow, Lugano is a comfortable place to visit regardless of the season. Located in Ticino, this world-class town lures people from all over the world for conferences, meetings and, of course, vacations.
December to February (winter): Average highs of 44°F (7°C) and lows 33°F (1°C)
March to May (spring): Average highs 52°F (11°C) and lows 39°F (3°C)
June to September (summer): Average highs 78°F (25°C) and lows 62°F (16°C)
October to November (fall): Average highs 51°F (10°C) and lows 39°F (3°C)
GETTING THERE
By airplane, visitors can fly into Lugano Airport, which is located 2.5 miles (4km) from Lugano. Taxis and shuttles from the airport make it very accommodating to get around and discover this Swiss town situated in the Southern Alps. Lugano is perfectly placed between Milan and Zurich, and exploring surrounding areas is fun and easy.
All roads lead to Lugano when travelling by car. Motorways connect Lugano directly to the Mediterranean as well as to cities around Europe. It is important to note that for one to drive on the motorways in Switzerland, a motorway sticker is necessary and can be purchased at Customs upon arrival.
To reach Lugano by train, the FFS Railway offers daily service from 5:20 a.m. to 11:15 p.m. The FFS Railway will provide visitors access to all parts of the region, and it is a great way to see the area. With service to several Swiss and European cities, visitors can reach Milan in an hour, Paris in 10 hours or Berlin in half a day.
