Engelberg Hotels

Bucolic only begins to describe what Engelberg is all about. The village’s alpine backdrop is so preposterously breathtaking, one wonders if the 4,000 or so residents could ever feel indifferrent about it. Simply put, few mountain milieus compare with Engelberg’s, which is why, since as far back as the medieval era, the Obwalden canton gem has drawn crowds. For hundreds of years however, the crowds were mostly of the monastic kind and indeed, it wasn’t until much later, in the mid to late-19^th century, that Engelberg became a highly-fashionable and sought-after mountain spa resort. This tradition endures today and the village obliges with a tidy ensemble of superb hotels and guesthouses, restaurants and pubs. For those who adore majestic alpine peaks and shockingly fresh mountain air, Engelberg is as good as it gets.
