Consider the fact that Davos, at over 1,500 m above sea level, is the de facto rooftop city of Europe. Indeed, with a lofty, majestic Swiss Alps backdrop, the diminutive hamlet is nonpareil on the continent. Scenery then, plays a major role in Davos’ inherent charm as a four seasons resort community. Winter sports and Davos go a long way back of course, most notably on the slopes of the six remarkable ski areas that line the town proper. HC Davos, the local hockey team, is a consistent championship contender in Europe and the incredible Vaillant Arena (Eisstadion Davos) hosts the Spengler Cup the last week of December, in addition to other important events throughout the year. Mainstay points of interest in Davos include the Kirchner Museum, Winter Sports Museum and Casino Davos. Though relatively small, the town unfurls a solid and inordinate ensemble of decent restaurants, après-ski bars, pubs and clubs. Davos is also a good base from which to explore the myriad gems of Graubünden, from the city of Chur to the Glacier Express.
