Karlskrona General Information

A stalwart naval port and Blekinge County gem, Karlskrona is without peer in Sweden. As the only Baroque city in the country, Karlskrona has a desirable claim to fame. What attracts many visitors to the city of 35,000 people however, is the presence of one of the most extraordinary and unusual UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Europe. ... Read more »

The “Naval Port of Karlskrona” is inimitable in Sweden and indeed, the world, as a 17th century purpose-built maritime military city. Incredibly, the original plan and installations endure to this day and Karlskrona survives as the only naval base left in Sweden. While a tour of the UNESCO World Heritage Site is a must, other points of interest prosper in the Baltic Sea islet city. Karlskrona’s Stortorget, or “Big Square” hosts the magnificent Fredrikskyrkan and Trefaldighetskyrkan, two grand ecclesiastical monuments. The Karlskrona Marine Museum chronicles the development of the city’s most prominent legacy and the incomparable Kulenovic Collection Museum displays a remarkable medley of art under the lofty roof of a castle fortress. Come summer, Karlskrona comes alive with archipelago boat tours and action on Stumholmen Beach and Drägsö Beach. Visitors should also make a point to crash the city’s massive Lövmarknaden, or midsummer Leaf Festival.
