Surmeli Efes Hotel Kusadasi Guest Reviews
The 5-star rating of this hotel must be a joke! Then again, this was probably the best value for 50EUR per night I can think of - having travelled quite a lot!

I usually give good ratings on hotels but this one went way under par. The hotel markets themselves as a 5 star or 4 star resort but it does not meet expectations. I found the hotel's service to be awful. During my stay, the air conditioner in the room did not work. I therefore asked the front desk to have engineering look into the problem but the engineer never came. After one night with out AC, I asked to change rooms because of the problem. The front desk refuse to switch me and they wanted the engineer to look into the issue. The engineer never came. I am usually very patient with service but this really frustrated me. The hotel room did not seem clean and it seems to have a strong perfume smell. One of the elevators did not work the whole time we were there. This caused long waiting times and packed elevators. The breakfast was so-so but dinner was good. I would not recommend this hotel.

My overnight halfboard stay was very enjoyable and good value for money.

My wife and I spent 3 nights at the Surmeli. The location is perfect for getting to the sites in the area. The staff was very friendly and responsive, the food good, the room was spacious and spotless. We felt like we were on a cruise ship. The hotel is large, but the staff get to know you quickly. We enjoyed the sauna and indoor pool. My wife felt the manicure and pedicure left a bit to be desired. It took place in the barber shop with a Turkish soap opera blaring on the TV. A much more pleasant atmosphere would have been in the spa area.

The rooms are very small with limited outlets. It is not an American friendly hotel since there are no 110V outlets or transformers available there. I had brought an adapter but not a transformer - as I have experienced other European hotels make this available to Americans. Also the hotel itself was rather warm - with no hall lighting on in room hallways during the day and air conditioning either not on or turned so far up that most public areas including the restaurant are stuffy. Food and service in the restaurant was excellent - catering to a German and English clientele - good selection of international items.
