Super 8 Motel Lake Tahoe South Guest Reviews
We were very disappointed in the location, condition of the building, and the room. I can not believe Super 8 still puts their name behind this hotel. We stayed up late just so we did not have to spend much time in our room.

This Motel needs some major improvement! Our stay was very very bad!

I was in South Lake Tahoe to attend my grandfather's memorial service, so I didn't plan to spend a lot of time in my room. The room was clean and the hotel staff were friendly. The hotel room was pretty outdated, with a wall heater and older particle board counter tops. The bathroom was small and only had a shower, no tub. A big concern for me was the safety of the parking lot. Traveling as a single woman this is always something that I need to be careful with. In order to get to my room I had to drive through a really narrow alley. Cars were parked pretty tightly around the corners and I thought I was going to hit another vehicle. The available area to park my car was also extremely close to the doors of the lower level rooms, only about 3 feet of space between the front of my car and a door. The stairway leading to the second floor was on the outside of the building, no safety from the drunk people wandering the parking lot at night, and there were plenty of those to contend with. The complementary breakfast was non-existent by the time that I got to the lobby at 8:30 in the morning on a Friday. I saw one man sitting eating a bowl of cereal.

Motel Positives: I am not in to gambling and this was away from the casinos which made this a great location. Staff was friendly and helpful. Great pool area. We were there on July 4th weekend - the bed was comfortable and the room was surprisingly quiet. Negatives: This is a very old motel; most electrical things were plugged in to extension cords, walkways are cracked, etc. It was advertised as having "extended breakfast". Breakfast was 2 types of cold cereal and 2 types of mini-muffins and 2 types of juice. Coffee was "instant crystals" blended in a coffee machine. Not a bad motel; just be aware of the drawbacks. Located very close to the Tahoe Queen tour boat dock.

I would recommend this place for those who needs a bed and bath. There are basically two types of accomodations in Lake Tahoe: Luxury like your own rental lodge/casino hotel/ski resort, and Basic in which the Super 8 falls into. It would be nice to stay at a lodge or resort but given the prices especially around holidays or for late booking, the Super 8 will do just fine. Rooms are no frills, sheets clean, bathroom in working condition. If you are one of those types that nitpick on the details, then spend a couple extra hundred a night on a place that suits your fancy. Even then, I have stayed at pricey lodges that are even dirtier than this place so pricier does not necessarily means better.
