Served our purpose. Older hotel but clean. Great location to explore the Washington monuments. Close to Foggy Bottom metro and Whole Foods store. Was given free wifi. Parking fee is $28 + tax, cheaper than most. Nice n friendly front desk staff, Katleen n Manuel. Unfortunately same can't be said for the rest esp the housekeeping staff that delivered the microwave.... Very unpleasant man... For the price n location, will recommend.

The hotel had everything I needed and was located in a a student area of DC. Which makes it a lively environment. The number of bars, restaurants and shops in the direct surroundings of the hotel is limited however. For that you need to go towards foggy bottom metro station or dupont circle. The hotel is close to the White House and the Mall. And has a city bike rental station nearby (the red bikes you can rent for 7 dollars per day (unlimited number of 30min trips).

The hotel was comfortable and well located to get to the tube and some key sites quickly. Hotel is clean and rooms of good size. The bathroom in my suite could do with updating, decor was from the 70s

Despite some less than inspiring reviews, I was very pleased with this hotel in all the key aspects - easy to find, close to tourist sites and shopping, spacious accommodation (bedroom, kitchen, bathroom and dressing room), easily accessed and clean and good state of decor (maybe not quite as modern as the leading hotel chains), couple of shops adjacent and a few reasonable restaurants within 3 blocks.....and only 3 blocks from Mr President's White House. Limit amenities in the hotel (no dining option in the Hotel). I would definitely stay here again if in Washington DC. good value for money compared to others in the vicinity

We stayed at the State Plaza in October 2012 for my birthday trip to the USA. The location is superb - close to many of the sites incl the Lincoln Memorial, White House and Museums. There are some nice restaurants nearby and a handy supermarket next door. The room was nicely decorated and very spacious - nothing special but simple and all we needed. There was a kitchenette (which we didn't really use) and the bathroom was substantial with a dressing room next to it. There is a restaurant in the hotel but it isn't open very late (9.30pm). This is also when room service stops - which then means you can't get a drink or any food after that. Not helpful when you arrive at 10pm starving and thirsty (we had to make do with the supermarket next door). Breakfast was really nice however, tasty hot and cold options. The staff were helpful - especially the concierge - but reception gave mixed information when it came to prices for cars to the airport (we were quoted $55, then told $65 when it arrived, then charged $70 by the driver), so make sure you double confirm these before booking. I would recommend this hotel again as on the whole it was exactly what we needed - only really some niggles which were just unfortunate for us.

We had a nice stay at this hotel. I like the kitchen most. The location is very close to the national mall and we simply walked there. The parking lot was full when we arrived and we had to park several blocks away, and it took us some time to find the parking lot since we are not fimilar with the nearborhood. Overall, we like the hotel and will return next time.

The hotel was very good and we enjoyed our stay there. It was very well located, walking distance to the monuments and memorials. A good base for exploring DC. Breakfast was pricy and fairly basic.

We would give this hotel a four or five star rating if a few things were improved. The internet service was spotty and was ethernet rather than WiFi, so you could not be away from the desk. They advertised a fully stocked kitchen. There was one pot, no plates, no oven, no dishwashing items and minimal utensils. We were supplied with a few things when we asked, but we had to buy a knife, a cutting board and a few other things. We planned to stay 2 weeks because we could cook, so we were disappointed. We loved the suite idea and the cleaning staff did a great job. The bed was really comfortable and it was relatively quiet. Great location in a nice area about 5 blocks from the metro and almost right on the Capitol Mall.

The double bed suite was very spacious & clean. The location is walking distance from the Metro and several memorials & historic sites. The only two complaints that I have are 1) the kitchen has a stove top but no pots or pans and 2) the noise level was a little high. Our window faced the alley between the hotel & the next building & at times we heard the noise loud enough so it sounded like we had the window open.

Good overall, but the room was a little bare (though large, with a nice kitchen and sitting room), and the internet went out for a whole day with no apologies. Also, there isn't any WiFi, just a cable.

We selected the Sate Plaza because of the location. We like walking when we visit the District. The location is ideal for visiting museums, restaurants, getting to the Metro, and to the offices on the Lincoln Memorial end of the Mall. Staff was at the desk every time we came into the lobby. The valet parking was very well attended, always prompt. If you are looking for luxury this isn't it - what is is a very clean hotel with very nice rooms that appear to have been converted from small apartments. The kitchenette is very handy to have. The State Plaza makes for a very convenient base of operations in the District. We will seek it out on future trips.

This has been my 2nd time staying here and while it is an older hotel it has a great location , walking distance to all the Smithsonians and all the DC Landmarks . This is the best part, the rooms come with a complete kitchen , stove & a full size refrigerator with freezer, utensils , cups, glasses, plates ..... We stayed at more expensive hotels in DC that do not have all the ammenities this one has ...... Valet parking underneath the hotel is 33 a night tax & everything which is actually pretty reasonable compared to other hotels in the area. A full service CVS next door too....very convenient ...
