Let's put it this way... I wouldn't stay at this hotel again. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the location was great, but there was nothing fantastic about this place. My room was less than average. The bed was very hard and the pillows were the worst. Although there was space for a mini-fridge, there wasn't one! I found this disappointing since my husband and I had planned on buying some breakfast foods to store in our room to save a little. Worst of all, the room was very dirty. There was blood dripped on a wall... not like anything gory, just something kind of gross. I also watched for six days a earring back on the floor that never seemed to be vacuumed up. I am not snoooty when it comes to hotels. I'm okay with a cheap hotel, if that's what I'm expecting. I just was expecting much more from this place.

This is a very bad hotel in a great city. The service was similar to that of a roadside motel. The facilities are poorly maintained. We would not stay there again.

The hotel was as picture on their website. Nothing outstanding about it. It was conveniently located in the Central Buisness Disrtict, about two blocks from Harrahs, 2 blocks from the French Quarter and 2 blocks from a couple of Trolly lines. There was no refreigerator in the room. The hotel coffee was good. I never went to the restaraunt. For what I needed it for, (a place to pass out and shower) it was more than adequate.

This hotel left much to the imagination. First of all, the room location was terrible. They put us on the 100 hallway in the back of the hotel (separate building) this time, and every little noise could be heard in our room. This included doors slamming, people laughing, kids crying, and the numerous outdoor street noises. We did not sleep well due to the poor building quality. Secondly, the quality of this part of the building was underpar for the other part. The walls were dingy, and the carpet was dirty. The hairdryer was broken, and there were minimal towels and pillows in the room. They would not move our room to the original part (and quiet/clean) of the hotel because we booked it on the internet. It would make sense to give every customer the same quality of ammenities to ensure repeat customers!

I've stayed in New Orleans on numerous occasions, and I can't recall ever staying at a hotel with a better location. It's directly in the center, and mere blocks away, from: The French Quarter, Bourbon Street, The Mercedes-Benz Superdome, Harrah's, The Riverwalk, etc. The staff was wonderful. Like I said, I've been to NOLA several times, and this was the friendliest and most helpful staff, by far. Any questions that I had were answered knowledgeably and any request that I had was met quickly. I also have to add that I was very impressed with their valet service. I called 10 minutes before I walked down to check out, and when I arrived downstairs, my car was waiting on me. The previous time that I had traveled to New Orleans, I stayed at a hotel on Camp street (one block away), and when my boyfriend and I checked out, we had to wait over two hours for our car! This will always be the hotel that I stay at when I travel to New Orleans in the future.

Great location if you are going to Saints game. Safe area, we could walk anywhere in the city within minutes. The hotel has valet, but we found a parking garage less than 2 blocks away.

We paid for our room through an Orbitz package deal. When we checked out, they charged us $40 for a room safe that we never used and internet access! We don't mind paying for internet access but it would have been nice to know that upfront or how about including that in the price of the room? The vacation was our 10 year anniversary gift from our parents so everything was to be paid for. $40 is not a lot but it certainly didn't make us happy.

Great location for anything you want to do. The hotel was old and charming. The best part was the staff, Hard working and on top of everything. The staff remembered your name and every morning would say hello and make you feel like you were at home. I would go back and tell my friends. thanks St, James for making my vacation great. We decided on this because of location, which was perfect, like a short walk to everything and far enough away that you can park your car across the street and not let the valet take it somewhere else. The room was decent, old building, it worked with what it had. The staff was very knowledgable of the area, and also gave you details of where to avoid. Believe me, you will need this info!

At checkin, we were given a key card to get into someone else's room. Their things were there, but they were not. The pool is dirty. The cleaning staff does not do a good job. Over all, the staff does not care for the hotel and it shows.

It was a great hotel. The front desk personal helped us with great customer service and assisted us with great locations to dine and visit. Thank you so much...

The St. James has a great location, and the set up for the rooms are awesome. However, our room smelled like someone died in there, or that it hadn't been aired out in forever. The clock was an hour wrong too, so we figured maybe no one HAD been in the room since Daylight Savings kicked in.

I would recommend the St. James to travelors if they get a good deal. If not, probably go elsewhere. The room was small, the safe didn't work, the shower flooded the bathroom everytime we took a shower, the maid service was not great. (She only came twice in our 4 day stay) not enough towels (especially with the flooding) and we found a few cockroaches. The dipping pool is kinda dirty. I wouldnt get it in. But on the bright side, the staff was really nice. And really, in New Orleans we just needed a place to crash.

The hotel was very beautiful on the outside but definitely lacked the "loving-touch" on the inside. We stayed a total of 4 nights & our air conditionaer went out after the first day! Despite numerous complaints, we settled for keeping our door to the hallway open because it was cooler in the halls. Our room was on the 4th floor & the elevator did not work for 2 days. Though the hotel was far from full, they refused to let us have a late check-out (our flight was not until 7pm) but did store our luggage for us. Overall, not a really great visit at all.

The hotel was fine, the room was a little musty. For the price and location it was great. It's minutes away from the French Quarter.

The front desk staff originally couldn't find my receipt and the wait was long, but they were very welcoming and apologetic. Once they found my reservation, I was in my spaceous (for a single), clean room w/in seconds. The building is old and has the authentic feel of history, which is a refreshing change from typical chain hotels. I was in my room by 11p after a long day of walking through the city and didn't hear a peep from my "neighbors" all night. Only drawback is that it's a 3 block walk off of Canal, going in the opposite direction of the quarter. I didn't feel as comfortable walking "home" after dark as I would have if I stayed in a closer hotel. However, I would stay here again and recommend it to others.

Upon arriving at the St. James, the concierge was very welcoming and immediately gave us some tips and sites to see. We put our things in our room and headed out, not returning until the evening. When we returned and had the opportunity to examine the room, we found that its cleanliness was unacceptable. The shower (no bathtub) had hair in it, as did one of the beds. Additionally, the deadbolt on the door was broken and lamps were not plugged in. Due to the uncleanliness, specifically of the bed, we asked to switch rooms, and did so. The second room was satisfactory, but clearly grimy. All was well though, as we were out early each morning exploring the city--cemeteries, museums, nearby neighborhoods, and returned only to go to sleep. We found it hysterical that the pool is considered an amenity, as it should be described more as a large bird bath. Overall, our experience in New Orleans was wonderful, despite the higher expectations we had for the St. James. It offered a great location and allowed us to experience a wonderful city.

We arrived on a Thursday afternoon to a somewhat warm greeting. The gentleman at the front desk could have done a much better job of greeting us. Our room was warm when we arrived and continued to be that way for our two night stay. My husband had left his wallet in the car and unfortunately did not realize it until our car had been valeted. We called down to the front desk to have it brought back up and was answered by the same very annoyed fron desk man. He also told me to make sure and get everything I needed out of the car in a very rude way. The hotel was nice but in the future I will not return, I need to know i can sleep comfortably during the night.

This hotel is right next to the French Quarter, so we did not use my car the entire time there; everything was in walking distance. It was located in an old building with a lot of character. The pool was very small and they did not have a business center, but if you are looking for a place to sleep and nap while exploring the French Quarter, it is perfect. I do not know how old it was, but it was decorated with 1920's styles but had a modern bathroom. There is cheaper public parking across the street if you do not want to spend the extra money for valet. It is also close to the streetcar stops.
