Retiro is a picturesque neighbourhood in southeast Madrid with one of the most popular parks in the city, Parque del Retiro. Built as a retreat for the royal family in the fifteenth century, it was later expanded a number of times during subsequent centuries. Getting There
Retiro is easily reached from all sections of Madrid via the excellent public transportation system that the city has to offer. The metro is a cheap and relatively safe option with the nearest stops called Retiro and Ibiza. Buses run regularly from all directions and make numerous daily stops directly in Retiro. Taxis are also abundant all over the city and can be taken to and from this area without any hassle. Once in the scenic district surrounding the park, many visitors opt to explore on foot, allowing them to take in all of the beauty and history surrounding them.
