Sierra Nevada National Park is a vast swath of Spanish landscape that encompasses colossal mountain peaks, ski hills, nature trails and a wide array of endemic fauna and flora.

La Alhambra is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Spain — a country notoriously replete with them. The sprawl of the former Moorish palace and fortress complex is remarkable. Although weather and age have diminished some of the finer architectural details, the entire site is no less spectacular.

The former gypsy district of El Sacromonte drips with history and features cave houses built into a hillside. A walk around the old quarter is a great way to spend a few hours in Granada.

The World Heritage El Albayzín quarter contains several important sites. Among them is Granada's excellent museum of archaeology, the church of San Salvador and an ancient network of Arab baths.

The Carthusian Charterhouse monastery is a resplendent example of Spanish Baroque architecture, with priceless frescoes and a magnum opus tabernacle.

The Realejo was the ancient Jewish quarter of the city before the infamous expulsion of 1492 by Isabella I and Ferdinand II cleared Granada of this vital segment of the population. Today the quarter features beautiful villas and gardens.

Events

The San Cecilio Fiesta in early February turns the gypsy district of San Sacromonte into party central for one week, with traditional dance, music and costumes.

Carnaval, held throughout the month of February, features eclectic entertainment and traditional processions in and around Granada.

The International Tango Festival in March draws competitors and spectators from around the world to the city.

Holy Week in April is a special holiday, with parades, Flamenco and other events in central Granada and on the outskirts of the city.

The Feria de Corpus Christi lasts for one week in early June and features a carnival-like atmosphere, with concerts, food, wine and plenty of revelry around Granada.

Granada's International Jazz Festival is a popular reason to visit the city in October.

Climate

The city and province of Granada has a Mediterranean climate for the most part. Variations exist in the Sierra Nevada mountain range of course but for tourism purposes, the capital has terrific weather throughout the majority of the year.
