Built for Manuel Vicens by Antonio Gaudi, this Barcelona residence is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is Gaudi’s first important work and established his reputation. Casa Vicens is an amazingly beautiful building, from the coloured glass in the entranceway, to the smoking room, to its graceful balconies. Gaudi enhanced his architectural designs with sensuality by incorporating lines and curves that are evident in Casa Vicens. Gaudi also incorporated decorative tile into the house. Getting There
The El Prat airport is 16 kilometres south of Barcelona, and buses and metros connect the airport to the city. Casa Vicens is located at 24 Carolines in the Gracia neighbourhood of Barcelona. It can be reached by taking the metro L3 to the Fontana stop. Several bus routes that will also take you there, including the 22, 24, 27, 28, 31, 32, 87, and 92 lines. The house is part of a themed tour and special transportation is available. If your hotel is close enough, the neighbourhood is quite nice and quiet, so walking can be a pleasant alternative.
