White River is a tiny village adjacent to the enormous Kruger National Park in South Africa, where one can see the “big five” (elephants, lions, rhinos, leopards and buffalo) on safari. White River is known for its excellent fruits, vegetables, flowers and other agricultural products, as well as the local artisan crafts. White River Climate
Summertime in White River spans from September to April and brings highs of 30°C, while the drier months of May through August have highs around 22°C. Both seasons are subject to scattered thunderstorms, but they are more common in summer.
Getting There & Around
Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport is less than 20 km away from White River, and you can hire a car from most of the major agencies. Some travellers fly to Johannesburg, which is 288 km away. Either way, you will want to rent a car.
There are tour companies that will drive you through some of the national park areas, but you should have a car to get around at your convenience.
