Sofitel Sydney Wentworth
5 out of 5

This is the first time I've stayed at the Sofitel and I was blown away by the friendliness and helpful staff. My room wasn't ready and they came over with a box of chocolates and a drink voucher along with a genuine apology. I told them not to worry but they went out of their way to make me feel special. The rooms were beautiful and surprisingly quiet considering their were 2 weddings on. The rooms were clean and the amenities were sufficient. I will definately go back :)

Because we paid a discounted price, we had value for money. I would never pay the full price. The smell at the reception area is too artificial. It made me nauseaus. However the room was really nice. The bed was very comfortable. Only 10 min walk to Circular Quay. Perfect location.

We selected the hotel l mainly because of a previous outstanding experience in Dijon. As this was a special birthday and we wanted a 5 star hotel close to key ammenties, the Sofitel Wentworth was selected. Paid easily in NZD's. On arrival the hotel couldn't find our reservation and tried unsuccessfully to match a different guest with the same last name to the booking. Then spent 45 minutes debating rates only to find my rate was in NZD's and hence didn't match AUD expectations. The booking reference and all other paperwork was produced on arrival but didn't make a difference. No apology was offered. The room was small, although reasonably well appointed. The bathroom door wouldn't stay open and the toilet seat was loose. The double bed was two singles zipped together, one of which had most of its springs gone leaving a virtually unsleepable bed. That plus very loud airline employees at 2.00am and 5.00am made for a wonderful first night. I complained and requested a different room which seemed to meet some resistance until I threatened to book out of the hotel. This resulted in a room change to a higher level room which fixed most of the problems. The concierge however, was exemplary and provided a brilliant service that went someway to fixing the experience. The final nail in the coffin was to be presented with a parking bill for a car which we never had as we arrived by taxi from the airport. The hotel is located in the business district so short on normal dining options in the vicinity apart from Circular Key. It isn't at 5 star level in my book having stayed at 3 & 4 star hotels that are vastly superior.

Overall the hotel is excellent, great location, style, comfort etc. However - the fees for internet and the cost of breakfast were outrageous. I expect, top-of-the-range hotels, charging top rates, and for what is these days - a necessity, to provide free Wi-Fi, or at a reasonable rate. I'm back in Sydney next month for 3-days, overcharging is a great way to ensure I look elsewhere on my next visit.

Very well located hotel for Circular Quay, shops, Hyde Park and public transport. A modern interior is inviting and the staff were very good. On the negative side the bed and pillows I had were terrible. The breakfast cost was exorbitant so the little place over the road got out business and i was very happy to give it to them because the food, coffee and service were good and priced reasonably.

Hotel chosen for location to business meetings. Room was very small and bathroom even smaller. Would only stay again if similarly located properties were not available.

We have stayed at other 5 star hotels in Sydney. at the wentworth I think they need more reception staff. I waited over 15minutes to buy a card for the business centre as there was only one girl on duty at 4pm sunday afternoon and there were others in front of me waiting to check in. ane then the printer didn't work but I wasn't offered a refund. It's also the first hotel I have ever stayed in where there were holes in the bed sheet. the room was comfortable but far from soundproof.

I stayed in this hotel as part of my business trip to Sydney. Overall the room is quite nice, but mirror was broken with crack marks and furnishing seems a bit out of dated. The staff however were quite good, I arrived early and left my phone number and was called promptly when my room was ready. Staff also acknowledge you in the lift and make sure you enter the lift first. For Australian hotel standard, this level of service is quite exceptional.

Excellent location, easy access to the airport. Very clean rooms; discrete, courteous, and helpful staff. The weaknesses are few and minor, such as very little closet space and somewhat poor sound isolation.

The hotel staff was very friendly, and the room was fairly comfortable. The king bed was two double beds converted into a king. It was comfortable, but the connector was lumpy in the middle. The bathroom had a heated mirror but a weird shower with only a half of a shower door that leaked water. Room service food had good proportions, but the delivery fee was a little high. We appreciated the umbrellas given to us when it was raining. The concierge helped us immensely during our stay.

A very good hotel, let down by the reception experience at check-in - slow and disinterested. Apart from that, excellent staff at Concierge and housekeeping. It's a pleasure to stay here.

We arrived for a 4 night stay at 4.10pm but the rooms we booked 7 months earlier were not available until 6.00pm. At this time of day, this was very unsatisfactory especially with an 80 year old as one of our party. A sympathetic porter kindly offered water and a drink pass which should at least have been forthcoming from the check in staff. The check in staff did not seem to be able to handle the paperwork and appeared to have no idea what to do. 2 hours later we were unable to use the room security key as the battery in the door needed to be replaced. We had come for a wedding and the initial experience was not 5 star !! The bed was uncomfortable because on one side you rolled out - used as a seat too many times. The remainder of the stay was satisfactory but there are many other hotels in Sydney where the service is far superior and which will attract my business in future.

Definitely a business hotel. Rooms are kind of on the small side, and the bathroom is quite small - although it has excellent amenities and a great powerful shower. The television was pretty average - small and didnt work very well (ie. screen kept on going blank). The bed is fantastic. Has a quality iron in the cupboard which is important when you are travelling for business. Free paper each day is a plus as well.

A top class hotel, you feel homely as you walk in the lobby. Beautiful flowers and the lavender oil fragrance. The ground staff are friendly and service with a smile. The room is comfortable with good fittings.

I got an excellent rate for this hotel and will certainly stay there again if a similar deal is offerred. My room was well laid out, quite spacious and there was no noise from outside the hotel nor from the hall or adjoining rooms. The bed was super comfortable and there was a bath and good lighting in the bathroom for make up. They make a big selling point of having a pillow selector, but after being delivered a memory foam and later a fibre pillow when I'd asked for a latex one, I gave up. Also having only one person handling checkouts on a business day is frustrating. These are small annoyances though and as stated earlier, I'd happily stay here again.
