This is the first time I've stayed at the Sofitel and I was blown away by the friendliness and helpful staff. My room wasn't ready and they came over with a box of chocolates and a drink voucher along with a genuine apology. I told them not to worry but they went out of their way to make me feel special. The rooms were beautiful and surprisingly quiet considering their were 2 weddings on. The rooms were clean and the amenities were sufficient. I will definately go back :)

Because we paid a discounted price, we had value for money. I would never pay the full price. The smell at the reception area is too artificial. It made me nauseaus. However the room was really nice. The bed was very comfortable. Only 10 min walk to Circular Quay. Perfect location.

We selected the hotel l mainly because of a previous outstanding experience in Dijon. As this was a special birthday and we wanted a 5 star hotel close to key ammenties, the Sofitel Wentworth was selected. Paid easily in NZD's. On arrival the hotel couldn't find our reservation and tried unsuccessfully to match a different guest with the same last name to the booking. Then spent 45 minutes debating rates only to find my rate was in NZD's and hence didn't match AUD expectations. The booking reference and all other paperwork was produced on arrival but didn't make a difference. No apology was offered. The room was small, although reasonably well appointed. The bathroom door wouldn't stay open and the toilet seat was loose. The double bed was two singles zipped together, one of which had most of its springs gone leaving a virtually unsleepable bed. That plus very loud airline employees at 2.00am and 5.00am made for a wonderful first night. I complained and requested a different room which seemed to meet some resistance until I threatened to book out of the hotel. This resulted in a room change to a higher level room which fixed most of the problems. The concierge however, was exemplary and provided a brilliant service that went someway to fixing the experience. The final nail in the coffin was to be presented with a parking bill for a car which we never had as we arrived by taxi from the airport. The hotel is located in the business district so short on normal dining options in the vicinity apart from Circular Key. It isn't at 5 star level in my book having stayed at 3 & 4 star hotels that are vastly superior.

Overall the hotel is excellent, great location, style, comfort etc. However - the fees for internet and the cost of breakfast were outrageous. I expect, top-of-the-range hotels, charging top rates, and for what is these days - a necessity, to provide free Wi-Fi, or at a reasonable rate. I'm back in Sydney next month for 3-days, overcharging is a great way to ensure I look elsewhere on my next visit.
