Koper General Information

Though smaller than some national parks, Slovenia packs a lot of beauty, charisma and majesty into 20,273 km2 of Central Europe. The diminutive nation too often soars under the mainstream radar and subsequently, lives off the tourism scraps of Italy, Croatia, Austria and Hungary. While Slovenia has some wonderful neighbours, the country between the Adriatic and the Alps also unfurls many fine gems of note. Indeed, from the capital city of Ljubljana to Bled, UNESCO World Heritage Škocjan Caves to Maribor, Slovenia is well worth a whirl. ... Read more »

Koper is one of the few towns in Slovenia with a fortuitous perch over the Adriatic Sea. As a result, the pretty municipality offers visitors peerless access to a venerable corner of Slovene charm. A mere 20 km from Trieste, Italy, 76 km from Rijeka, Croatia and 108 km from Ljubljana, Koper is a wonderful gateway stop on a tour of the upper Adriatic coast. Venice, most notably, is across the sea from Koper and in the other direction, visitors can take in Slovenia’s dramatic interior landscapes, from the incredible caves at Škocjan to Mount Triglav. Within Koper however, numerous landmarks await. Some of the best include the Praetorian Palace, Loggia Palace, Cathedral of the Assumption, Koper Regional Museum and Church of Saint Nicholas.
