Shiv Niwas Palace Udaipur Guest Reviews
The hotel was completing many renovations during our stay so there was a lot of construction. This wasn't indicated on any of the websites the hotel is affiliated with, so it was a bit of a nuisance. Also, the external parts of the hotel were a bit run-down and in much need of a paint job. Otherwise, staff was friendly and courteous. The squash court was a nice surprise (which we used). Proximity to Lake Palace is good.

The room had ants and mosquitos; the staff shut off electrical service to the room each time we left, so had to find the main circuit switch ourselves. This hotel could be interesting (it is an old palace) but it hasn''t had much in the way of upkeep for the past 100 or so years. It is just on the edge of tolerable and the $40 per night, while it seems low by Western standards, probably is much too high for the Jaipur market.

Very dissatisfied with the experience - informed upon arrival that I was waitlisted. Made me talk to local agent. Offered alternate room that was OK. Overall service was 3 star at the best and not 5 star as advertised.
