Shangri-La Hotel Hangzhou

Beautiful view of the West Lake. Very relaxing feeling.

Shangri-La Hotel Hangzhou

It''s a wonderful location just minutes away from West Lake - very pleasant for a late evening or night walk along the Su Di. Very comfortable room but meals are expensive.

The hotel is situated near the lake and gardens, which makes it an excellent location for walks around the lake, the islands, gardens, etc. Unless you get a room on the top floor over the trees to get a good view, opt for the less expensive rooms.

Shangri-La Hotel Hangzhou

Our room and bed (West wing) are reasonably comfortable, although bed linen was not quite nicely pressed, which is somewhat unusual for a 5-star hotel. The bathroom is clean but small, and it does not provide enough desk/top for laying toiletry bags. Good thing is that the towels are so white so felt they were clean. The location is great if your aim is to visit the Lake. The check-in, and check-out, at Reception Desk took soooo long. Although they tried to be courteous, there was no eye contact during the processs so the service was cold. The staff at Concierge, however, were very friendly and helpful. They gave us good advice so we had a good time at the end. Overall, I think the hotel (esp our room) looks a bit tired, and its service should be improved. With a few new hotels in the city nowadays, we will likely try different one next time when we are there.

It''s a nice hotel to relax with a very child-friendly staff especially staff in the coffee garden and Shang Palace restaurant. We have 4 small kids running around and fighting and so on, but they are still smiling. Well done!

A very well situated hotel, the rooms overlooking the lake had a fantastic view but you need to ask for one with a balcony. The hotel is rather spread out and difficult to find your way around. But I would highly recommend this hotel.

Our room (282) had no view; it overlooked a roof and a wall. I cannot understand why we were placed in this room since the hotel was half empty. There were other rooms with excellent views. Guests should check out the view before settling into their room and ask for a change if necessary, Unfortunately we did not do this and regretted that we did not.

The facilities were otherwise excellent and the staff were very professional. The location of the hotel is outstanding. It is located on the West Lake, one of the most beautiful areas of the city. It is not close to commercial areas, but these are readily aqccessible by inexpensive cab. There are a few shops and restaurants near the hotel.

Thought paying over US$100 for a hotel room in China would guarantee us a great experience. Frankly speaking, I was none too impressed. We were immediately put off by the completely unhelpful and snotty attitude of the front desk whilst checking in. Apparently, they had ran out of rooms with a double bed on the east wing so would we accept a twin room instead. Meanwhile, we found out later there were plenty of double bed rooms available in the west wing to which we then had to drag our luggage across by ourselves. Anyway, the garden view room had a view of the front yard which consisted of a lot of car traffic and some trees. The internal decor can be best described as 70s. There were some redeeming qualities such as the pool and the leisure facilities were good. The room and the bed was comfortable. Also the location was pretty good. All in all, it wasn''t the best experience we have ever had and definitely did not feel like it was value for money.

This hotel is right next to the beautiful lake (Xihu) which is the main attraction of Hangzhou. The hotel is really nice and definitely worth every penny of the US$78 that we paid per night. This is a five-star hotel, but the price is less than the average 3-star hotel in Shanghai. Rooms are clean, staff very helpful, free broadband, and you even get free "longjin" tea (dragon well tea is the most famous in the area).

The staff at this hotel were extremely helpful in such things as obtaining train tickets, confirming our air ticket, and helping box purchases that didn''t fit in the suitcase!

Beautiful location, on the West Lake. Spacious and well furnished rooms, good internet connection, quite expensive. They misunderstood the kind of room we booked, all rooms of that category were full, and at the beginning the receptionist tried to overcharge the room price. After discussing we were upgraded to a suite: very wide, beautiful sight on the lake (while interior decoration is a little bit too heavy).

I would have expected to be top end as this is a Shangri-La - this is true for restaurant facilities the tea buffet on weekend is great. The rooms are more 4 star hotel type.

Though pricey, room ''s balcony gives you excellent view of the west lake. Hotel''s in excellent condition. Your choice of Hotel if you are prepared to splurge a little.

The rest of the hotel is 5 star standard, but not my room! I have stayed in many hotels before (3 to 5 star), but Hangzhou Shangri La''s rooms do not justify to have a 5 star rating. The beds are rated 4 star at best (too hard). The duvet is too thin and does not give you this cosy feeling. The reception staff are arrogant and don''t know a thing about their rooms; I asked whether my room can see all the fireworks and she said yes arrogantly! (And charged me extra for it!) It turned out that I could not see half the fireworks. I had to go up to the ceiling to see this and had to complain afterwards. Of course they agreed to charge the normal rate again. The staff smile only to foreigners and not to Chinese.

The hotel is in a nice lake-front location...but it is not within walking distance of the main activities in the city of Hangzhao. I would have preferred to be closer to the "activity" of the town. If you want a more peaceful location, this location would be perfect.
