Shangri La Hotel Bangkok Guest Reviews
Not a tale of super-woe, but when you want to be treated well-- a cautionary lesson. I reserved the Shangri La hotel on Orbitz on short notice and the popup window said stay 2 nights and receive free breakfast and 1 way hotel limousine. The reservation from Orbitz did not mention the 2 night option - I assumed it was hotel policy but to be safe-- I printed it out so that the hotel could see it. At check in, the hotel said "we have no record of that but only your room and internet" It took 36 hours for the hotel to say that in their communication with Orbitz, the matter was settled in that Orbitz wrote ' that the customer had checked "free internet" rather than the special 2-night breakfast and limousine option'. Of course, internet was free anyway, but no matter. Unfortunately, by the time this answer came, it was too late to do anything. The manager of the hotel was gracious and sat with me on Explorer to show me how the process would have worked correctly. I respect that, but remain the victim of miscommunication between Firefox, Orbitz, and the Hotel-- and felt that the delay was unconscionable. The customer may not be always right, but I expected better from the Shangri-La. Moral of the story-- You are on your own sometimes-- even in Shangri-La land.

Stayed in the Krungthep Wing of the Shangri La Bangkok recently for 6 nights in a Deluxe Balcony Suite and then 1 night in a Deluxe Balcony Room. My comments only relate to the Krungthep Wing facilities and staff, not the main wing of the hotel. The service is first class and exactly what you would expect of a five star luxury hotel. The staff are very professional and will go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable, whether it's for business or holiday. The Krungthep Wing packages are also excellent value for money, with breakfast, all day non-alcoholic drinks, personal butler, broadband internet, afternoon tea, cocktail hour and canapes all complimentary. This means the rooms are a lot cheaper (value for money) than you might first think. Excellent rooms, the Deluxe Suite I stayed in is bigger than my apartment at home, and had two balconies, a massive bathroom and a separate powder room/second toilet. I could not fault the hotel and will definitely be back.

Probably the best hotel i have ever stayed in. The staff were charming, efficient and ever helpful. The location is stunning. The restaurants were varied in style and excellent quality if slightly expensive. The Spa is unmissable.
