Santa Lucia Hotel Cuenca Guest Reviews

5 out of 5

The hotel is lovely, but the room was rather dark due to the eco-friendly lightbulbs. Charming restaurant and bistro. The front desk service was excellent -- they went the extra mile to straighten out issues with the return flight. Bravo to them! Location is perfect for sightseeing -- and Cuenca is a lovely city. I'm already thinking about a return visit.

This hotel is well-located within the historic town centre, and has abundant charm and character, set as it is within a beatuifully renovated and furnished hacienda. But, like other hotels of its type, most rooms have no outside-opening windows. Windows open to the lovely square (atrium) around which the hacienda is built, which now serves as restaurant, reception and other public space for guests. So rooms can be noisy if the window is left open, which we found essential in the stuffy ground-floor room we had for our first two nights. To the credit of the hotel, they asked us if we would like a change to an 'airier' room, to which we eagerly agreed. We were given a much larger first floor room, with window overlooking the carpark. Quiet and airy, no extra charge for a much superior room. Ask for one like it. Don't expect much English to be spoken. (anywhere in Ecuador).

Top notch service at a classy old world hotel. I was sick one night and at 0100, the on-duty staff took a taxi to an all night pharmacy and brought me the medications I needed. The restaurant in the courtyard is excellent. Two drawbacks. One is the firm beds, seems to be a problem throughout Ecuador and the other is the lack of ventilation. The rooms were warm and stuffy at night, even with the windows open. Installing ceiling fans would help.
