Ideally situated on a stretch of pristine white sand beach, Sandos Caracol Eco Resort & Spa is 15 minutes from downtown Playa Del Carmen. The hotel is found in the Mayan Riviera and affords visitors panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea.

The 738 tastefully furnished rooms and suites are decorated in tropical style. They feature air conditioning, satellite 42-inch plasma TV, wireless Internet access, iPod player, telephone, mini bar, safe, coffee maker and private bathroom.

The location is great, rooms are fine (though some show their age). Overall amenities are good with one crucial exception: internet access. It's expensive at $5 an hour, and critically, it doesn't seem to work at all for half the day despite the cost. I'd expected by 2011 that we've firmly moved into the realm of internet access being a basic expectation. Guess not! Other amenities were fine: spa and gym were satisfactory, as were the pools and the cenote. The "eco" portions of the resort were a nice touch, though the obviously hobbled parrots were somewhat disturbing with evident signs of psychological distress (e.g. feather plucking). If you don't like cats, raccoons and coatis you may be very dismayed, they keep them around too, free range. But otherwise it's nice to see some kind of effort to connect with the local environment and wildlife. The food was OK. The meals were mainly buffets, which usually contained at least one or two good items and a bunch of very generic food. The non-buffet restaurants were incredibly variable from one to the other and even from night to night in the same one. At their best it was almost like being in a real, relatively serious restaurant. At their worst the food and service was worse than the buffet -- or even the last-resort 24h a day snack bar. YMMV. The staff are generally very nice and quite helpful. Finally, the location is pretty great. The beach is superb coming from away-- but perhaps so-so in the context of the Riviera Maya in general. It's a bit of a pain getting into Playa del Carmen proper if that's your desire. The beach walk is 5.5km, and the taxis are fixed-rate at 120 pesos.

Good cruise style resort with all drinks "alcoholic" drink included. It is based in caracol between cancun & playa. The resort is based on highwy 370 but takes amile long walk from the resort.taxis are available in front of the lobby for playa for $ 12 usd. Tour companies can come to the lobby to pick u up. Reading the past reviews, we were worriedcause we have dust n mold allergies and found the rooms clean "delux garden view with jacuzzi". International breakfast was nice, specially the fresh fruit juice bar. Mexican rest was the best. Italian Rest was good to but missing the Italian deserts. Enjoyed the Mexican night with open food bar and shopping tents. Also the games were fun. Go early to get beach tents or during odd hours like lunch . Sun sets at 5:30 pm in winter so u miss on some beach n excursion time, may be fall or spring would be good. Restaurant servers and open bar servers were really good. Money exchange at the lobby no so accommodating we could not get usd 100 change in usd but only in Mexican. Every time u do the money exchange u need to show passport just not once. ATM only in playa, so. Take lots of change. Beach has rocks

I enjoyed my stay 1-week stay in mid November of 2011. No vendors on the beach, no one trying to sell me trinkets. Nice beach, rooms are okay, good service, the food was okay. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The weather was very good, mid 80's. This is my first resort but heard from other guests they liked this resort better than most.

We went with a group of friends for a 3 day vaca. There was not much to do in the evening for adults to do. Stay in the sports bar and play pool or ping pong. Only 2 of the buffets were open and they were ok. We were only allowed to go to 1 nice restaurant while we were there. We still had fun but, would not reccomend this hotel to my friends.
