Sanctuary Hotel New York Guest Reviews
Room was small but VERY modern and well appointed. Staff was outstanding. If you have business at Rockafeller or are in town for Site-Seeing, the location is Near Perfect.

The hotel is excellent, the location is excellent, but the surprise was that there was no business center. S0 if on one is on vacation and chose to not bring a notebook, one can't do simple tasks like print airline tickets.

I booked this hotel through Orbitz.. They first said that I did not have a room then immediately said that they could not honor the room that was booked through orbitz.. The staff appeared irratated and went out of there way to be less than couteous and were just out and out RUDE. They would not refund me nor would they call and address the issue with Orbitz. I had to call orbitz direct and find my own room accross the street. Overall a very unpleasant experience.

The hotel was almost the perfect place for my wife and I to lay our heads during a busy, wild Halloween weekend. The room was small but modern, clean, and quiet. The atmosphere of the hotel, especially for Halloween, was perfect. The lighting of the lobby, hallways and rooms was rich and sexy in a classy, architectual way. The room amenitites were modern and stylish. Though, with no ice machine to use with the wet bar in the room, it made for a slight inconvenience. Otherwise, the room amenitites were good. The staff was excellent and extremely helpful and accomodating.Of all the many times I've stayed at hotels in NYC, the Sanctuary Hotel was defintiely one for the books and made our trip this time, one of the most memorable. All in all, my wife and I would definitely stay at the Sanctuary again.

First I must say that the classification of the qualities of this hotel are guess-timates because we only experienced the front desk and lobby. Despite my having made a booking at this hotel more than 5 weeks before our trip to NYC, and the fact that we called the day before to confirm, asking for their quietest room, and the desk said that everything when arranged, when we arrived the next day at 3:30 to check in, the desk said they already booked us in another hotel "across the street"!!! We were extremely upset, my husband said it was fraud, and we had booked their hotel, not another one. The clerk said they were " overbooked". We said Orbitz doesn't book people in hotels where there are no rooms. They said they didn't know how to reach us (yeah, right) and they also sent another couple away the day before, etc. Finally after a lot of "so sorry, so sorry" she took us across the street and way down the block to the Stay Hotel (that was the real name, believe it or not). She talked with manager there and we were shown a "deluxe king"= tiny room with a worn out mattress and excessive street noise. We asked to see another room, and the manager said the other rooms had queen beds. We looked at it one which at least was quiet, but this room was even smaller. We were so tired by then we gave up and put our bag down and got ready or dinner reservations and we also had theater tickets. When my husband went down with manager to sign in, the elevator doors were broken, kept snapping open and shut and the alarm rang. They had to take the other elevator (tiny-4 people fit in), and this hotel had 11 floors with 250 rooms!! We called Orbitz and told them what The Sanctuary had done to us. The guy at Orbitz was furious and said they would investigate. The man passed our call to a lady who took details. She said it was unacceptable, and they would be writing us an email about it. So far, we have not gotten an email from Orbitz. After we returned from the theater, there was a fruit/food basket the manager of The Sanctuary sent to Our room at Stay Hotel. He also called my husband and said there was rain damage in the booked room. My husband said oh, no, there isn't, because the clerk did not say so, plus we knew there was no rain on the days we were in NYC nor even the day or two before. The manager then said we could stay at his hotel free next time. Since we probably won't be returning to NYC, this doesn't help. We paid about $700 for a two night stay at the Sanctuary and this is what we got. BEWARE!!! The staff at the Stay Hotel weren't service oriented. The breakfast room floor was sticky and when I pointed it out, they said "we know" but they didn't do anything about it. We were told to serve ourselves. There was no coffee left. The girl shrugged and acted like making another pot was beyond her job description. Oh, did I mention the Stay Hotel has a noisy pub bar adjoining it on one side and another pub/ bar onnthe other side of it? We had thumping all night through.
