Cap Cana - Sanctuary My family and I have used this vacation format (all-inclusive/adults-only) 6 times in the last 8 years, several of them in Mexico (Cancun, Cabos and Pto Vallarta). This location ranks about third or fourth on our rating scheme. It is a great hotel but its location (isolated with no walking beach) and its price tag make it a not so good deal. Arrival – we arrived late in the evening and were surprised to see that our room was not ready. We arrived a little after 11h00PM. Also, we clearly indicated that we were 3 (our daughter accompanied us) but the room had a single bed. So, we waited 20 minutes to get a roll-away type bed that did not fit the available space in the room. This was not a very good arrangement. Room - The advertisement indicated a view on the beach. It turned out to be a little way from the very small beach area. We had to walk through a volleyball court, a large sandy area and then got to the beach. Not bad overall. The room was very nice, well maintained, with nice ceiling fans. The only potential improvement to the room would be to get a newer, less noisy, air conditioning system. Overall, room was well situated in a quiet area. All-inclusive / Adults only – For the past several years, we have enjoyed going to adults only vacation. We use this period of time to recharge our batteries, catch up with good books, enjoy the good dinning and share good discussions with other travelers like us. Well, we would have none of that. We were surprised to see several children in the area. We were told that the hotel had recently been sold and that the new owner changed the formula to accept families. We never got any indications until we showed up for breakfast the day after our arrival. We were very disappointed to hear all the yelling at the pool and in the restaurants. When we ask the management, they offered to move us to the very end of the hotel, in a location called the Fortress. We went and had a look at it. The place was beautiful but resembled an apartment building with several floors of luxurious rooms. There was no access to any beaches and it was a significant walk to get to most of the restaurants, so, we decided to stay in our original room. Beach Area - the beach at this location is very small and mixed of sand and rocks. For those of you who like to run a few miles on the beach in early morning, this is not feasible here. They have a luxurious gym at the Fortress where you can use a state-of-the-art treadmill. The beach is well maintained and includes plenty of long chairs. Pools - there are 2 large pools at this location and one “Whirlpool”. One large pool is around the “Fortress” that I mentioned earlier. We did visit it but the water was extremely cold because it was mostly in the shade all day. The main pool had plenty of sun but the water was still very cold. The pools should have heaters blasting all the time. Well, none of them did (including that little whirlpool). So, for those courageous to get in the pool (mostly the Canadians and poor fathers who had no choice but follow their children) there was plenty of space to swim laps. Restaurants - There are 5 restaurants and there is a daily schedule where to go, when to go. Some are closed one night so you have to look at the schedule. Breakfast is good. You can find a lot of different things. Lunch was not so good. I don't need to fly thousands of miles to find my cheeseburger.. I was so looking forward to more tropical like foods. Dinner – Other than the fact that kids were running around and loud, the food and service were very nice. Quality of the food was very good, presentation was well thought out with nice size portions, and service was excellent. Staff - A few comments about the staff: All staffs were very polite and available. However, several of them did not speak good English. We tried French and Italian with no success. So, we picked some Spanish during the trip. It was workable but waited 25 minutes to get so

Everything was amazing! Food was great, lots of selections. Service is top notch! Everybody was super nice. Property is gorgeous, well maintained. Only downside is the beach is basically unswimable. Lots of seaweed. I dont think its the hotels fault, its just nature. Hotel tries to clean it up all day long but still comes back.

Sanctuary is a gorgeous property with great amenities and amazing staff! As soon as you get there they welcome you "home" and make you feel that you are at home! The staff was very kind and helpful as well as a lot of fun! Miami was the best! Events on the resort are great and quite entertaining. Food is very good (outside of dinner at Blue Marlin). The wildlife at the resort is amazing, especially the giant spiders which are very harmless and a part of the natural beauty! We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. Orbitz was also great in assuring us about our reservation and airport travel through the change over of resort management! So glad we were there with Salamader resort instead of Secrets!

Great location. Hotel is new and not complete. Only two restaurants open most of the time. Lighting is way too bright so dinning at night loses a lot. Red wine is served cold and is expensive.
