Rydges Hotel Melbourne

We found this location after deciding to spend to New Years in Melbourne. There was a special offer which made the stay very well priced - but after our visit, we would have booked regardless! Considering we did not intend to spend much time in the hotel, it was perfect - great location with everything in walking or transit distance. Staff were fantastic, hotel room was a great size with comfortable bedding and we had a seamless check in and out process. We definitely got our value! Thanks Rydges - keep up the special offers too ;)

Nice size Queen spa suite. Great location to Bourke St Mall & Southbank. Too much noise at night from the street. Pity the roadworks started so early on Sunday Morning & no hot water to boot.

This hotel has had some bad reviews but don't let that put you off as obviously everyone's experience can be different, mine was excellent. Our room was spacious and clean although the bathroom is on the small side but adequate. We were on the 21st floor as requested and it was very quite with great city views, bed was comfortable and up to the Rydges standard. Staff were courteous and pleasant to deal with and location was tops. Theatres, restaurants and shopping within walking distance . I have NO hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone who wants value for money. We will definitely stay again when in Melbourne.

My husband and I booked this hotel for a relaxing weekend away from the kids. We had booked one of the more expensive rooms we thought was a Queen Spa Suite including a Queen size Rydges Dream Bed. We had high expectations of the room as per advertised. When we walked into the room the first thing we notice was the stained carpets and the musty smell, which we thought was unusual. We were not impressed with the decor. The bed was only a very small double and the spa bath was so small I could barely fit in and I am a small woman size 8-10. As there was no ice machine so we could enjoy a cool drink in our room, we called room service to order some ice and per the hotel booklet instructions, to which we recieved no answer. We instead called reception to ask and they said they would pass the message on, an hour later we still had no ice and it never came. The bathroom had not been restocked with new shampoo and conditioner etc bottles, all of which were used or empty from the previous occupants. the hotel was very noisy so we found it difficult to sleep, noise from traffic outside which the hotel was unable to buffer, strange whirring noises througout the night from inside the hotel itself and curtians, which would nowhere near reach the edges so the light streamed through early in the morning. The universal remotes turned on both televisions simultaneously each time you pressed on even from a different room! For the price that we paid we expected so much more. We expected 'luxury' accommodation as advertised, it was anything but.

Upscale hotel and very comfortable room! Easy walk to all attractions, restaurants, bars, shopping areas and trams or trains. Comfy bed, nice towels and bathrobes, heat control for both areas (living and bed), lots of storage areas and closet, huge bathroom with enclosed shower separate from bath. No washer/dryer in room which several Melb hotels do have. Lovely bar/restaurant on main level. Small issue in room with tv in the living room interfering with one in bedroom...turn channel of one and it turns on the other. But hey, 2 tvs!

Very efficent check in as we arrived after 5pm, and we were in our room in not time, with time to go and have a lovely dinner before walking straight across the rooad, to Her Majestys Theatre, we could not have asked for a better location, bed was very comfortable and room was very clean, parking in the basement was a breeeze with a very friendly parking attendent who assisted us with locating our car, and pointing us in the right direction for the exit, thouroughly enjoyed our short but sweet stay, breaky was really great too.

Overall a clean, well positioned place to stay, close to restruants and the theatre. However our room was right next to the lifts and we heard them every time they moved. Perhaps they either need servicing or soundproof the guest rooms. Our bed was very comfortable and the room clean, as I said the only disapointment was the constant lift noise. We would consider staying there again but as far from the liftwell as possible.

Good hotel but don't get room with adjoining door as it can get very very noisy. Breakfast has a great selection. Staff at front desk are very friendly.

My first impressions of the hotel were quite good; the foyer is quite big and has a nice open fireplace burning. Check-in was average they didn’t really smile or seem like they wanted to be there, but it was 11pm so maybe they were tired also. Once I went to the room, at first it look ok for what you paid. Once you turn on the lights you then see what really needs to be done. There was lots of dust on the top of the wooden headboard. They had also tried to update the rooms by putting in a flat screen TV on a fake the wall to hide the wires, but it wouldn’t stay closed it kept opening during the night. I went to use the TV remote and it was greasy and dirty, I’m not sure what the last guest was doing with the remote??? Next was the bathroom, very small with a half size bath. The shower unit needs to be re-sealed due to the amount of use the room must get, also the cleanliness of the bathroom was quite poor. There were water stains on the back of the door where water had been running down the door. The glasses in the bathroom had water marks all over them and they were not covered in plastic or paper. Overall the room was ok, you have to remember it’s only a 3 star I think. We also paid $20 each for breakfast, not really worth it as the food was cold and didn’t really taste that good, you’re better off going around the corner to a small café.

The room I stayed in was small (& the air conditioner a bit old), but like other Rydges hotels, there was a great design and feel to the room & I enjoyed my stay, Staff were professional and friendly, and helped me with some directions.

Had a great stay at the Rydges. Stayed on the 18th floor, room was clean and a good size. Bathroom was a good size with a shower/bath combo. Good location and 1 minute walk to the free city circle tram to get around Melbourne and to the main attractions. I would give the hotel an overall 4 star rating. Staff were helpful in giving directions and recommendations

This hotel was perfect as just a place to sleep. We came down for a concert & was the perfect location to get to the stadiums, casino, shopping & museum. Located diagonally from the theatre & China town this was by far the best spot in terms of location. The hotel itself was not average but also nothing special, but the staff were great. Only criticism would be the restaurant..needs some work but it certainly didn't spoil our great weekend away!

although an old building the interior is new and fresh, the lobby is clean well presented with small cosy lounge area which is very quiet. the restaurant is well set out and tidy with ample room, while the breakfast has a good selection. the room well made and modern, the king size bed makes you feel lost in it with ample of room and has a good view which many hotels dont.

Location was very central to everything in the city. Staff throughout the hotel were polite and very helpful. My room was very clean , the room cleaning staff on the 15th floor were very polite and very competent. An overall happy stay. But l will put this in .....the Breakfast price is abit high it should be apart of the room.
