Rydges Capital Hill Canberra
3 out of 5

Was a good location, staff were very helpful and friendly. Great room size and very comfortable. The Buffet breakfast was really good with more than enough variety. The room cleanliness could have been better. There was mould in the bathroom and hair on the floor and sink when we arrived. Room was a little tired. Overall was pretty happy but would probably not stay again for the price compared to other experiences.

Also well appointed and with a great dining room service. Barramundi superbly done. Good gym and pool but it would be nice on Canberra's really hot days to have one outside. Staff courteous and friendly. Location suited well -close to airport and parliamentary buildings.

overall quality was nice but a nightly parking fee of $12.00 was way over the top. Also rang housekeeping to get a problem investigated. They said they would send someone up - but it was a no show. As it was minor it was not a big deal but still a no follow up on a customer request is not a good look.

This Hotel is well placed for gallery, library and parliament house visits. Also convenient to Manuka with its many restaurants. No car is necessary - just an easy walk. In-house meals are quite ordinary and the Hotel is beginning to show its age, however.

My Rydges experience was good. The front desk staff were really professional, cleaning staff friendly and the buffet breakfast was alright too. The location was convenient (although finding out how to drive in to the hotel wasn't the easiest) - a 15 minute walk and you have access to the Kensington pubs, less than a 10 minute drive and you're in the heart of the city. My friends and I were visiting Canberra for a friend's wedding, so we were only there for the weekend. We wanted to stay at a place that was comfortable and within our budget and Rydges came up in the mid range so we were all happy. The star rating and reviews helped our purchase decision which is why I'm posting this now. I believe and can now attest most of the reviews for this hotel as you do get good value for money. The only negative feedback I would give would be the GYM FACILITIES - very small gym room and old (some not functional) equipment - you also have to pay between $9-12 to use it - NOT WORTH it. Jump in the pool instead. Apart from that, I'll give everything else a thumbs up.

No concierge so the first room smelt of smoke, after a complaint we were changed. Pool over run by children swimming lessons. No herbal tea $30 deposit for the use of an umbrella even though they ha our room number.... Overall could easily be improved

We enjoyed our stay at The Rydges Capital Hill Canberra. It was just walking distance to the great Manuka shops in Griffith. Staff are very friendly and the inside court yard was a great place for coffee among the indoor trees. Everything was excellent however the room we stayed in was a bit stuffy at night but we could slide open the balcony door for fresh air when necessary.

We choose Rydges Capital Hill because of its location to places we wanted to see nearby as well as the shops and resturants at Manuka and Kingston. Also the weekend (Saturday & Sunday) room rate was the best value for Canberra southside. Disappointed the Imbargo bar did not open at 5.00pm Sunday. We had a late breakfast Monday and some food items had run out and not been replaced. The King Spa room was very comfortable and clean. The colour on some channels on the TV made the faces look like they had a burnt chocolate skin. All the reception staff looked like they knew their job but appeared as though they were afraid to smile. As the first point of contact on entering the hotel you want to be greeted with a smile and enthusiasm.

The hotel was fantastic. Extremely friendly staff and very efficient room service. The breakfast at the hotel restaurant was beautiful. I would definitely stay there again.

Staff are very helpful and extremely polite, nice environment. The lobby is comfortably furnished and spacious and the dining / breakfast area appeared large and well laid out. The hotel offer a special “free membership” discount of 20% off food and accommodation in addition to special internet rates.

Not enough people at reception during 'peak times' - there was always a long line of people waiting to be served.

We were given a very spacious room at Rydges, but it did show quite a fews signs of general wear and tear. It seems to be in need of a fresh lick of paint, but the stay was pleasant.

It would be good if they can accommodate early check-in in the future for guests with babies.

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights--excellent staff who gave us caring attention--We where in Canberra for medical reasons and needed easy access to Deakin. The hotel offers great facilities eg heated pool, gym ,beautiful garden courtyard areas and near Manuka shops etc. We would definitely stay there again . We may arrange to have a weekend family gathering there.
