Beautiful hotel in excellent part of Shanghai. We were on a stopover so wanted to avoid the frenetic part of town and have a more relaxed, old Shanghai experience. This hotel was an historic, comfortable and relaxed place to stay. Good breakfast included and a complementary bottle of wine add to the ease of your stay. We did not go into the other buildings but had lovely rooms in both buildings 1 and 2 (due to booking error we were upgraded - how unusual is that?) and would recommend you ask to stay in these bits. There are plans to expand the hotel and build large new building. This to us seems a terrible shame but hope that they do it sympathetically and that the character of the hotel does not change and become corporate or impersonal.

the hotel staff were very helpful in setting up connections and tours when i asked for help...the hotel is very close to many restaurants in the french concession and xintandi...rooms were clean and comfortable

Location good, consistency in rooms product not so good. Staff tries hard but English is still a challenge for most staff. Wonderful location.
