We had a reservation, arrived early they stored our luggage and returned back at 3 when they said rooms would be ready. The front desk told us they would need to gat managment...strang since we haven't even checked in. Manager told us we had been bumped to another hotel, remodeling hadn't gotten finished as quickly as they thought. She made it sound like the hotel they were sending us to was wonderful, over looked the castle and they would give us a voucher to come eat dinner with them and have drinks. Taxi was sent for us, went to "new" hotel....this was not comparable to the room we had reserved at the Highland. Went back told the manager that was not going to work, she said she had not actually seen the other rooms at that hotel. They called and had us to go to the 3rd hotel, a small hotel, but the staff was so nice and they actually was doing anything they could for us to try and make up for the bad managment at the Highland. We did take advantage of eating dinner in the Ash restaurant and the staff was very nice, and the food was really good. The bacon wrapped haddock was wonderful. The hotel we ended up staying at said that this happens all the time, they over book and try to ship over flow out to small hotel and not a big one since that is competition for them. (we were told there was NO other rooms in town but the one they sent us to)! Moral of the story, yes it's close to train station and restaurant is good but taking a taxi was not in our budget. There are very nice hotels along the river that we found once we went walking! If we only knew! We never saw the rooms so we can't say if they were nice or not, sorry.

I have always enjoyed my stay in the Royal Highland Hotel, Unfortunately this time I was disappointed as our room stank of smoke which clung to our clothes. I mentioned it at reception but they dismissed it. They insisted that it was the positioned of the room and the smell was generated outside. There was no apology or offer of an alternative room. Everything in our case, including some things that weren't worn ,reeked of smoke and had to be washed once we got home . The breakfast was good on choice but still waiting for offer of tea or coffee. On saying that I would stay again but not in the same room.

A well presented traditional hotel with good services. Rooms a little on small size, but otherwise fine. Parking OK. Convenient to city centre.

Excellent location, good hotel, friendly service. Only one minus: When you check in, you receive a coupon for 20% discount in the restaurant. When we tried to use it, we were told that it was not valid for lunch, only for dinner. This should be clearly printed on the coupon (oral information in a difficult dialect just isn't good enough) in order to avoid except misunderstandings and frustrations.

Location excellent, right next door to the station. Reception staff very efficient. Although hotel comfortable it is in need of a refurbishment. Hot buffet breakfast was fairly good but a bit hap hazzard in bringing out cold breakfast items such as grapefruit, prunes etc. Overall we had a very pleasant stay.

we really enjoyed our stay at royal higland hotel, and all services were great except the breakfast, we found this let the hotel down, staff not really sure what other one was doing and the food could have been better, but apart from that we had a great time. A big thank you to the lady who serves the lunches, she does a great job and is very pleasant

unable to check in till check in till 3 p.m ,but check out was 10.30 a.m -small single room in attic extremely tired decor with uninspired view of railway roof from small, peeling painted window, light in bathroom flickered constantly- meal in restaurant intolerable slow service, incorrect starter, mediocre main course and expensive- breakfast in dull windowless dining room an abomination- cold bitter coffee, and rancid food- had to ask for napkin, cutlery etc. at£100 per night, the only thing this hotel has going is it's central location and helpful reception staff !

Reception very efficient and friendly, the room was small but clean, had all the usual equipment with a fabulous bathroom, the only problem was that there was no lamp near to the bed, breakfast was a buffet but plentyful variety to choose from and staff very friendly again and helpful, the food in restaurant in the evening was lovely I tried their haggis, staff in the restaurant were efficient if a little clipped in their attitude to be fair they were very busy. The location is amazing, it is right by the railway station (but I didn't hear a single train) and very easy to get to from the airport bus 11 takes you to just round the corner so unless you have heavy luggage you can save yourself the taxi fare.

The Royal Highland Hotel is clearly an old hotel. It is situated at the mainline Inverness railway station and is prsumably former British Rail, so you know the style of grand design. I had a single room overlooking the glass roof of the station and as was dark there was nothing to see anyway, however it is presumably too difficult to clean the windows - they were covered in pigeon poo- but I think someone should give it a try! The bed was comfortable, there is a trouser press and the bathroom was clean and modern. There is a 20 percent discount off dinner and a second drink at half price so I ate in the Bistro bar. The food was excellent as was breakfast in the morning and as befits a Highland Hotel there was haggis on the menu!

The Hotel is situated in a square at the Railway Station and has 9 dedicated Free Parking spaces. The other spaces are paid via a ticket machine and start at 7.00AM. If you leave your keys with the night porter he will buy you a ticket at 7AM.

It's a grand old British Rail Hotel dating back to Victorian times, the foyer is impressive but after that the hotel shows its age. Breakfast and the makeshift hot buffet table is poor, as was the level of service. Training for waiting and bar staff is sadly lacking.
