Rosedale Hotel & Suites Beijing

While in Beijing I decided to get on Orbitz to find a nicer place to stay for my last 11 days. I saw the description of Rosedale and took a taxi to check it out. It was a great experience. The Rosedale is one of the hotels chosen as a place to stay for the 2008 Olympics. The place is, to put it simply, WONDERFUL! The staff is friendly, efficient and willing to help in any way they can. I used their services to make a flight reservation for a friend, ate in the restaurant and bought several items from the gift shop. I would like to give my compliments to all the front desk staff, Frank, one of the managers, Cindy and Jane in the restaurant, the housekeeping staff and the young lady who helped me with the plane reservations. I'm sorry I didn't get her name but she was fabulous and very patient when we had to make changes. Around the area are several restaurants, coffee shops and a wonderful restaurant to get great dumplings. There are 2 parks to enjoy if you want to walk around, relax or jog. And if you want to watch live feeds of sports here in the U.S. then go down the street a couple of blocks (right turn out of the front of the hotel) to Peter's Tex-Mex Grill. Great place, as are most of the restaurants in the area. And I recommend the upgrade beyond the standard rooms so you can take advantage of the free breakfast buffet (6-10 every morning). They make the finest ham/cheese omeletes, have the freshest pastries and pretty good coffee. As well as a full Chinese menu. Overall, I have to say this place is one of the nicest hotels I've been in, both here in the states and abroad. This place helped to make my 2nd trip to China a very memorable experience.

positives: - excellent location if looking to stay in Chaoyang District and 5mins walk to the Lidu complex (however it is a long way from here to the centre of Beijing) - fairly reasonable price - many good restaurants and western amenities nearby negatives: - lifts (elevators) are old and the doors close so forcefully and quickly that they are dangerous - staff speak little English (you need some basic Mandarin to stay here) - building work being carried out (we were not informed of this until we had checked in and paid). Drilling late at night and early in the morning - decor is very dated - no smoking rules not enforced (our 'no smoking corridor' smelt of smoke) - very thin walls If you are used to mid-range Chinese hotels and the service in these, this is not a bad place to stay if you are looking to save money and will not spend too much time in the hotel. However there are many drawbacks!! - no minibar - bathroom VERY small

Good and decent hotel in a convenient (for me) location. Great and fast internet. Easy to get taxis and to go into town or to the airport. Great room rates. Excellent value for money
