Ritz Milner Hotel Los Angeles Guest Reviews

3 out of 5

This hotel was very clean with am awesome continental breakfasts. It was also close to several attractions that were in walking distance, BUT as for the room it was very small and the ac did not work properly.

The "Ritz Milner"'s newly remodeled basically means newer bedding, flat carpeting, and newer toilet seat. The hotel's old pipes are all still ancient - with popcorn ceiling and the scent of mildew or gas in the room. I stayed in Room 1111, which has one window facing a parking structure and another window facing the HVAC of another building. There was a hole in the window due to a bad or falling-apart old AC-in-window installation (facing the HVAC). The street noise and HVAC noise was at least 50 dB even with the AC off. They were unable to offer me a different room, and they could not fix the hole in the window. There was also the scent of gas in the room. When I called front desk about this, they sent up security, who bumbled around, then assured me that it isn't gas, that he knows the smell of gas, and that it'd be obvious because "Carbon Monoxide smells." (CO is actually scentless, but okay, maybe he's behaving strangely from gas poisoning in the few moments.) He also said that if the smell of gas gets stronger, I'm free to call him up. This wasn't very helpful, and frontdesk said they were overbooked so could not assign a new room. I opened the windows and turned on the AC at max. The tiny shower had issues with water temperature - either the hot handle would work or the cold handle, but it was apparently impossible to mix them together to get warm water. After some talk with the plumber, we figured out that you had to turn the hot water on, wait for the hot, then mix in the cold. If that doesn't work, try turning everything off, wait for the cold, then mix in the hot. Took about 10 or 20 minutes just to get the water at the right temp each time. The old showerhead was rusted, and the plumber was nice enough to replace the showerhead. Orbitz listed the room as "Standard", but the hotel takes all Orbitz orders as "Economy." The frontdesk staff suggested there may be some difference in quality between these two rooms. Orbitz support seems unwilling to correct this room listing error. Overall, the hotel needs a QA check in its rooms - and renovations in plumbing and structure, if possible! It's basically a $100/night bed in a room that smells like gas - except, due to the noise, you'd probably end up feeling less refreshed than just skipping sleep altogether.

Someone told me it's not to stay in this area. However I think it's ok if you are alertive. Super convenient. Near subway and Macy. You don't need to join the local tour in the hotel. You can get to Hollywood, Universial Studio, China etc easily by using metro subway. The economy room is not good as it's very small but it's also ok if we think about the cheap price. The studio suite is excellent!

As all other travellers said, the room is not big, but big enough for one person. It is fairly clean too, but just one thing I need to point out is the smell of the room, don't know where it comes from, maybe a bit from bedsheets (the smell of pretty strong kind of detergent or something) or from carpet? no idea. And the window is very hard to open, so I suggest the staff there should open the window while they are doing the room service to allow some fresh air to come into the room. Other than the smell, it's a pretty good place to stay for its price and great location if you just a traveller who needs a bed to rest at night, hehehe.
