Q Station Sydney Harbour National Park Manly Hotel
4 out of 5

The Q Station is a wonderful destination for anyone who loves to experience a historic and truly beautiful natural setting. The hotel and facilities are generally very good but let down by small important details: information folders in the room that are out of date / torn and damaged; minor maintenance issues (see below); inaccurate information provided by reception staff re food options; shuttle buses less frequent than advertised (only a problem in poor weather or when checking out); and we had to request a bed be made up for our son even though the booking was for 3. Take care if booking during very hot weather: there is no airconditioning (which is fair enough for heritage buildings). The overhead fans are effective but we had to close all doors and windows to keep out the mossie - don't count on cooling coastal breezes. On check out I mentioned that a door lock was broken and that a shower fawcet had fallen onto my foot so repairs could occur before the next guests checked in. I got the distinct impression that I was considered "difficult". The Q Station is a magic place with a wonderful atmosphere. I hope that by criticising some details it may improve and attract even more appreciative guests. We really enjoyed our stay. The staff are generally very friendly and courteous, perhaps they just need better training.

Amenities was good. Great bathroom with a view while you shower. While I was there for a couple of days there were 2-3 cockroaches in the cottage. This is probably due to the season (summer). Location is great for a good view but for convenience we always had to take taxis into manly due to the heat of summer and the fact it would take us 15-20 mins to walk. The shuttles always took a while to get (from the rooms to the reception). So always plan for a 10-15 min buffer if you have to be somewhere at a specific time. Furthermore all the taxis we booked in advance NEVER came on time. It's really pretty and picturesque and great for an easy going stay, but if you have a schedule I feel it isn't the most convenient.

An amazing and interesting location you really feel like you are living history! We had a queen suite and I'm glad we had that extra space otherwise the room would have been really small. We were placed poorly however. We waited for 30 minutes one night for a bus to come to the entrance to collect us. The first night our room was in between two groups who knew each other so spent the whole night standing on the verandah outside our room talking and there were kids in our section who ran up and down the verandah at night and early in the morning. The second night was really peaceful until 6.30am when staff started setting up for a conference across the road...tables scrapping, staff yelling at each other, trolleys trundling down the road. Not the privacy we were after for a 25th anniversary weekend! Lovely locations for breakfast and yummy food but terrible coffee the first morning..great the second day though, in the views restaurant. Overall a great time because of the location and what we made of it...

This was a great way to see a different face of Sydney and soak up some Aussie heritage. The views are AMAZING, the atmosphere great and all with a quirky touch!! Take a walk to North Head of a paddle on the beach, or catch a ferry into the city... no end of choices. I would recommend it as an experience to anyone, particularly not a first time visitor to Sydney. (Due to heritage nature of buildings, air flow etc was perhaps not up to some people's desires or the external bathroom.. but hey, that's all part of the fun!!!)

Staying here was a great experience - wonderful location & history, and very friendly, helpful staff most of the time. Breakfast was generous, lots of newspapers provided and 2 guest lounges. However, we suffered from Sydney's humidity with no air-conditioning in our rooms and no ventilation. The ceiling fan was noisy, the shower is over the bath and difficult to access the taps. We waited 7 hours one day to have our room serviced and the maids only changed one of the wet towels.

Great location and fascinating place to stay. The rooms were comfortable but surprised to find no drawer space for clothes. Also disappointed to learn that the shuttle bus service is restricted in the afternoons (a gap of 4 hours from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm returning from Manly). Maybe this increases in the summer months but is contrary to info on the website. Overall a great stay with some fantastic views of Sydney. Staff very amenable.

This is a very unusual hotel, being in the National Trust old Quarantine Station. This means that the rooms are scattered across a large area on a steep hillside, with no car access. Parking is about 200m from reception, which can be some 100s metres from rooms, resulting in a complex and time consuming shuttle bus operation and valet parking. Not a place to arrive or leave in a hurry or in a rainstorm, as I did. Allow about 45minutes to check in or out. But it is a unique location, remote from any other facilities, with fascinating historic buildings, lovely restaurant, museum and private beach. Because the buildings are all heritage listed, the room facilities are limited. The rooms are small, no ensuite bathrooms, no in room fridge or air con. On the other hand the rooms have a lovely balcony overlooking the bush or Sydney Harbour and the beakfast is just splendid. For a Sydney hotel it is good value considering that the parking and breakfast are included in the tariff.

This is an unforgettable place to stay. Stunning views. Great location. Be prepared to walk to another block for breakfast and to hand over your car to valet parking on arrival but the historic setting, beautiful bushland and great buffet breakfast compensate. You need to book well ahead for the onsite restaurant as it is so popular. You can also book ghost tours. Kids should be OK if supervised but it has wrap-around shared timber verandahs and a national park all around so a watchful eye is needed. Kids would like the ghost tour I am guessing

This is the best location in Sydney for views, atmosphere and quiet, away from the high-rises and claustrophobia of the city. The staff cannot do enough for their guests and it is always done with a smile. If we visit Sydney again we will definitely stay at Q Station which is only half an hour from Circular Quay by ferry.
