Powell Hotel San Francisco Guest Reviews
The hotel was in a great location but has two major flaws: 1. The valet service barely works and it makes check-in a lengthy procedure. 2. It is dirty and old. With regard to item 1, they need a full-time valet, particularly when it's check-in or check-out time. There are loads of cars, no where to leave them, and it took us about 45 minutes before we were actually able to get to our room. As far as item 2 is concerned, there's really no excuse. It's dingy, dirty (hair on the floor, dust on the dresser, rings around the sink & tub), and the bathroom was old and in need of repair. The faucets did not work properly, the shower had no water pressure, and it's aesthetic reminded me of a cheap motel with hourly rates somewhere off the beaten path in Nebraska. Hardly what I expected. I'll definitely not stay here again.

This hotel is literally on top of the powell street Cable Car stop and is within walking distance of everything in Union Square. Room was on the smaller side, but had everything you would ever need!

I was in town for a conference and didn't want to stay at one of the official hotels, because they were expensive and charged extra for things like wi-fi. The Powell Hotel is by no means posh, but it had free internet, breakfast, and weekday happy hour (quite a surprise), and it's literally steps away from the BART station. It's just what I was looking for.

Due to my friends ilness I was alone for this trip to San Francisco but The Powell Hotel made my visit easy. I was able to check in early and the room though small was perfectly adequte with modern bathroom fittings. It's an older hotel and hallways were dated. Staff were friendly and very helpful, especially John at the front desk. The location is fabulous and the coffee and pastries breakfast along with the happy hour on the mezzanine floor gave me oppertunity to meet and chat with other guests. It's not a 5 star hotel but it is excellent value and a great launching pad for your San Francisco visit.

I had a difficult time finding a good value to stay in SF near Union Square and scoured all the web pages looking for a place with relatively good reviews. I had not stayed here before and my first several choices were all sold out. I wanted to find reasonable parking too although the parking here was no bargain. I was looking for an inclusive parking package to no avail. The Powell was however very decent, clean, comfortable and quiet. The street was not sketchy as is the case in some locations. It was directly in front of the cable car terminal and round table at the base of Powell and across the street from the higher priced Parc 55 Hotel. The staff was helpful and friendly and the rooms were very comfortable and contemporary. I would recommend this hotel and return myself.
