Excellent hotel. Full of old world charm. Staff friendly and extremely helpful. Location a bit out of the way but easily walkable distances to the action. I would definately sta there again.

This is a beautifully designed and built hotel that has a lot of potential. However, it would benefit immensely from regular maintenance and re-training or replacement of most of the staff and management. Having stayed at the hotel before I was not expecting 5 star service but having a broken airconditioner in my first room, a broken toilet in my second room and then having to move (barefoot and in pyjamas) to a third room on another floor did not change my perception of the hotel any.

Lovely and peaceful, and a great change from the chain hotels. But being small, ''resources'' were stretched at times - such as trying to order room service in the morning. We then found that the ''residue'' of room service were left in the room all day! Room service and restaurants all close at 11pm so do not get back late expecting to be able to order a snack! Obviously the hotel works within tight constraints - my wife wanted to buy one of their tablecloths, but they did not have enough for their own use! Small points compared the overall ambience.

Service in the bar and dining room was very mixed mainly due to poor communication. There was a very poor standard of spoken English by some of the serving staff given that many of the guests are not local. I found this very surprising in a hotel of this type.

No one really understood English so requests for a blanket or ice or room service were not properly answered. Staff was very friendly, but inefficient. For the money you pay ($250) the service should really be much much better. We would probably not stay there again.

The colonial atmosphere and the very friendly staff give this hotel something special.

I feel you are paying for the atmosphere and uniqueness of the hotel, although the price is more like what you would pay for a 5 star hotel with more facilities and higher standards. The room was quaint rather than luxurious, and the same goes for the common areas of the hotel. It appealed because it was different to many Asian hotels we have stayed in, but we did notice the difference in standard in this respect - not nearly as luxurious (towels, furnishings, etc.) We did not dine in the restuarants but we did have breakfast in our room, which was fine. It was quiet and tranquil when we were there, and a balcony is a rare treat, expecially with a view of China. The staff were pleasant if not synamic, and tried to be helful in trying circumstances (a typhoon delayed our departure). The pool was a nice treat - and empty.

Very romantic- we had a beautiful suite overlooking the inner harbor. It was spacious and comfortable. The staff were helpful and as we had to extend our stay due to weather conditions, they were very accomodating. The food in the hotel is adequate however there are many restaurants outside with better variety. Overall, I would definitely go back and would recommend it to my friends looking for a quiet getaway for two...

Impressive entrance and restaurant, and visitors are fooled to think it may be a good hotel due to the price. <BR><BR> But don''t be fooled! The air-con and bathroom facilities are about 300 years old, the facilites are that you''d expect from a middle range motel. We stayed in the Honeymoon Suite and there was nothing romantic about it. <BR><BR> Go there for dinner, not for stay.

This is an experience not to be missed. A unique hotel--not a chain. The atmosphere takes you back to the early days of Portuguese Macau, while the service and food cannot be equalled. If you like big, plastic, chain resort hotels, this remarkably traditional Portuguese "pousada" is not for you.

Romantic place, quiet but still central location. Swimming pool is very deep from 1.4 to 2.2 meter. Extensive outside area.

A magical place in Macau for a nice w/end away from Hong Kong. Price is very expensive though and the Hotel Management could improve the service better in some little aspects, such as room decoration (a little empty), proper pens instead of pencils in the room etc. That would then much more justify the price asked. Overall a very good address. It is a pity though that they are planning to build more rooms etc. the hotel will loose its charm and the prices required will be even less justifiable. Dinner and cocktails are somewhat pricy too, compared to what you can get in Macau.

The hotel was charming. It had character and the staff were friendly and enthusiastic. However, you need to be able to relax and not expect immediate response to your requests when they are very busy - if you are expecting instant response you are going to be dissapointed, but if you are willing to wait a few minutes you will be rewarded. <br><br>The rooms are bright and spacious - having breakfast on our own terrace was a real treat, and the idea of specials baths to order was fabulous. As soon as we arrived we were delivered tea, fruit and chocolates to our room, and all the usual conveniences (bath robes, slippers etc) came as standard. If you are on a business trip this might not be the hotel for you, if you are on a break, or a romantic get away I would definately recommend it and will do so to friends.

I would only recommend to friends who are looking for a hotel in Macau that does not cater to the mass market, but the quality standard, as far as boutique hotels are concerned, is far below what I have experienced with others in the rest of the world.

Hotel is lovely! Wanted a quiet weekend away from Hong Kong and your hotel fit the bill perfectly. Staying on the third floor requires that you be in top physical shape as there are no lifts. We were hoping to have a quiet drink in the hotel lounge on Saturday night and were disappointed to find a large group function occupying the entire area. We will return and will recommend the hotel to friends.

Only provide transport to and from hotel and ferry upon request. Because of the location, cab has to be called to the hotel before you could go anywhere but staff was not too helpful in that respect. Also, I am shocked that hotel would not even give me a tea bag when asked!

I could not imagine staying at any other hotel in Macau. Pousada de Sao Tiago is a charming place! In the restaurant, the Portuguese Chardonnay was absolutely outstanding. Also, most worthy of note, asia-hotels.com was the only internet hotel site that was able to obtain a room at this hotel for me, even though I reserved quite late. Not even the hotel website itself offered rooms!

My husband and I chose the hotel for its unique history and ambience and were not disappointed. The facilities are limited but the building itself is very interesting. We decided that we would come back with our two young children. They would have a lot of fun exploring all the archways and chambers in the fortress. Few taxis go pass the hotel so make a booking at the reception. Apparently the hotel is planning to extend its business by building a modern highrise right behind the existing structure. We are not sure if that will alter the feel of the whole place.

Not affordable. Very late to be processed of check out. Bell waited the tip from the guest at the room. The room was very small even if it was the Barra Suite! (3000HKD++).

If you come expecting 5 star ''amenities'' and a slick concierge you will be disappointed. If you want buckets of atmosphere, fancy sipping port on the terrace garden battlements of a fort where Portuguese battled off invaders, want to stroll round for brimful bowls of tasty Macanese fare (great creamy salt cod...) washed down with vino verde by the A Ma temple, then no other place will do - despite the price tag. Vista room is a must.
