Lagos is a Mediterranean beach paradise with the expected breathtaking scenery, turquoise waters, seafood eateries and markets, and token tourist dives, but the rich history of this small town makes it an important cultural centre for Portugal. Lagos Climate
The Mediterranean climate of Lagos brings hot summers with highs of 26-28°C and very little rain. Winter lows only fall to 9°C, and most of the annual 50 cm of rain falls from November to March. Lagos receives about 3,000 hours of sunshine annually, making it an ideal holiday spot anytime, but spring and summer are peak tourist seasons.
Getting There & Around
Faro Airport is a short ride from Lagos, and several bus companies offer cheap routes from Olhao, Faro and other Portuguese and Spanish cities. The Algarve Rail network serves Lagos and the surrounding area. Driving can be tricky, as many roads are not paved or clearly marked.
Buses and taxis are widely available and quite cheap, but you can walk to most attractions as well.
